Harry and Chelsy’s romantic getaway

The loved-up pair take a luxury break in Mauritius before Harry leaves for the Army Air Corps…

Prince Harry has whisked his girlfriend Chelsy Davy to the tropical island paradise of Mauritius for a romantic holiday, before the 24-year-old royal gets down to the serious business of helicopter training later this month.

While the Queen had asked her family to show a little restraint due to the global credit crisis, her grandson appears to have spared no expense, staying in a luxurious $2000-a-night suite at one of the island’s most exclusive resorts. The young couple were joined by Chelsy’s South Africa-based parents, Charles and Beverly, and her brother Shaun during their holiday.

“Guests will want for nothing. It really is the height of luxury,” a hotel source told London’s Daily Mail newspaper.

Surrounded by six kilometres of pristine beach and sparkling lagoons, the hotel offers guests waterskiing, windsurfing, kayaking and the use of a glass-bottom boat, as well as an aqua-gym and an 18-hole golf course.

Lose weight with Oprah now!

The TV mogul invites her millions of fans, including Aussie women, to join her new fight against flab…

Oprah Winfrey is embarking on a worldwide weight-loss campaign in a bid to scale down her 90kg figure and get healthy.

The bold move follows the talk show queen’s stunning admission that in the past two years her weight has spiralled out of control.

Determined not to let her problem balloon any further, Oprah has enlisted celebrity personal trainer Bob Greene to help get her — and her viewers around the globe — back in shape.

It all begins this week, when Oprah kicks off her Best Life Week with a series of specials on The Oprah Winfrey Show, airing in tandem in the US and here in Australia on Channel Ten. The shows are followed by a week of webcasts on www.oprah.com, from January 12.

“My goal isn’t to be thin. My goal is to be the weight that my body can hold and be healthy and strong and fit,” Oprah explains. “2009 is the year of hopefulness and I feel hopeful.”

Having slimmed down to a toned 72kgs in 2004, Oprah, 54, says her weight ballooned after she was diagnosed with a thyroid condition in 2007.

“From the moment I learnt I had a thyroid problem, I thought, ‘I don’t know how to fight this’,” she admits.

Feeling defeated by the knowledge that her metabolism was out of balance, she admits she simply gave up exercise and watching what she ate.

Sacha caught with another woman

Aussie actress Isla Fisher is left fuming after her long-term fiancé gets in a clinch with another woman…

Isla Fisher is said to be furious with her fiancé Sacha Baron Cohen, after the British funnyman was caught kissing a mystery brunette at an LA nightclub last week.

While Isla, 32, was at home caring for the couple’s one-year-old daughter Olive, Sasha, 37, was spotted partying and drinking at celebrity haunt Teddy’s nightclub, where onlookers say he caught the eye of a dark-haired beauty.

The pair were seen locked in a deep conversation, before the mystery woman wrapped her arms around Sacha — best known as the creator of Borat — in an enthusiastic embrace, with the couple sharing a kiss.

Insiders fear that Sacha’s obvious flirtation has raised uncomfortable questions about his and Isla’s long-running, four-year engagement.

Having met at a Sydney party in 2002, they became engaged two years later. But so far the couple have failed to make it down the aisle, with Isla yet to convert to Judaism, Sacha’s religion.

Tom and Katie’s death threat terror

The Hollywood couple bunker down after attacks from crazed anti-Scientology fanatics…

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are living in fear after receiving a series of death threats, believed to have been sent by fanatical anti-Scientology groups.

“The threats are perceived to be so great that the FBI has been alerted,” a source told the UK’s Mail On Sunday newspaper last week.

The couple have already experienced opposition to their controversial Scientology beliefs, but insiders say the latest round of threatening letters has left Tom, 46, so rattled he’s ordered that he and Katie, 30, stay in separate locations and travel in bullet- and bomb-proof vehicles.

“Tom’s cars look perfectly normal, but in reality they are more like armoured trucks,” an insider told In Touch magazine.

Tom also took the unusual step of arriving at the LA premiere of his new movie Valkyrie via a hidden tunnel, avoiding anti-Scientology protesters outside the cinema.

The star was with his children Isabella, 16, and Connor, 13, but Katie and two-year-old Suri remained in New York, where Katie is performing with John Lithgow in the Broadway revival of All My Sons.

Rebecca Gibney exclusive: The battle to save my home

By Patrice Fidgeon

Pictures: Ross Coffey

Rebecca, her husband Richard and their son Zac are willing to fight to save the piece of paradise they call home in Tasmania…

When Packed To The Rafters star Rebecca Gibney moved to Tasmania six-and-a-half years ago, she hoped she would find a haven in which to relax. Little did she realise her idyllic dream home was under threat from an environmentally unfriendly eyesore set to be built in the beautiful river valley which the family call home.

Since then, Rebecca and her husband Richard Bell, along with countless thousands of pulp mill opponents, have campaigned for close to four years against the establishment of a pulp mill in the rolling green hills of the Tamar valley in which their mesmerisingly beautiful property sits.

Opponents of the proposal to build one of the world’s largest chlorine bleaching pulp mills, claim that not only would it spoil the area’s natural beauty, it would add to pollution, consume native forest and use billions of litres of precious water each year. It would also pollute the waters of Bass Strait and the Tamar River, and in doing so, affect tourism.

Passionate about their local environment, Rebecca, Richard and their peers have devoted hours to lobbying, on rare occasions being intimidated and abused by a small but angry pro-mill minority. Now, however, the family and their local community appear to be coming close to winning the fight. But it has come at a cost.

“Whenever you voice your opinion on something, you always know you’ll come up against people who look to discredit you. And that’s fine. But it got a bit personal. I was vilified in the press because I’d taken a stand,” Rebecca tells Woman’s Day exclusively.

Exclusive: Hey Dad’s Matthew Krok gets married

By Jenny Brown

Remember the cute kid who starred as Arthur MacArthur in Hey Dad..! and sold everything from cars and cookies to pizza and super-soft toilet paper in commercials?

Back in the ’90s, Matthew Krok was everywhere — tucking into baked beans, beaming, braces gleaming. And then he disappeared, as suddenly as he shot to fame.

“People thought I must have got whacked out or washed up,” grins newlywed Matthew, who actually grew up to become a Mormon missionary and engineering student.

“To be honest, it was kind of a relief when Hey Dad..! finished. I saw it as a chance just to be a kid again and concentrate on school, which was something my parents always stressed pretty strongly.

“I didn’t dream of stardom. I never had a passion for acting — it was something that happened. I’m one of five kids, and four of us had our photos taken and got signed up by an agent.

“We just wanted to earn a bit of pocket money for a family trip to the States, and everything kind of snowballed from there. I was the lucky one; work fell into my lap. I was in the right place at the right time, and I guess I had the right look.”

To his wife Jade, a fellow member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he’s still adorable — although Matthew today, at 25, is barely recognisable as that tubby little TV personality.

“I never saw him in Hey Dad..! because I was a bit too young. My older sister watched it,” 19-year-old student nurse Jade explains. “But my parents bought me the DVDs for my birthday, and I thought Matthew was cute!

“It was like watching home movies of him when he was a kid,” Jade says.

Just as Matthew’s TV career fell effortlessly into place — signed for a three-year stint in Hey Dad..! after being spotted on a Sorbent ad — so too did his relationship with Jade.

“It’s a cliché, but it’s been like a fairytale,” grins Matthew, whose first on-screen clinch was with a sassy nine-year-old named Delta Goodrem. “I knew Jade liked me, and I was hoping she’d say yes when I proposed, but I was nervous.”

He picked his moment carefully on March 5, at a harbourside park in Sydney’s McMahons Point. Jade, who was about to take him to dinner, remembers it well.

“We were soaking up the view, talking about our feelings, when Matthew suddenly said, ‘Can you feel how fast my heart’s beating?’ Because I’m studying nursing, the first thing that popped into my head was that he must be sick … I was going to have to time his heartbeat! Luckily, I didn’t have a second hand on my watch, or I would have made a complete fool of myself.

“I’m a bit slow to catch on, but when he reached around me to get something out of his bag, I kind of clicked. And then he got down on one knee. I just remember saying ‘wow’ about a thousand times, I didn’t know what else to say, except yes!”

The pair — who met through church and whose families are friends — married at the Sydney Australia Latter-day Saints Temple in Sydney’s north-west, followed by a reception at the Greenwich Chapel.

Jade, stunning in a “Beauty And The Beast-style” dress from the States, and carrying a bouquet of lilies, was attended by her sister Alyce Bennallack and best friend Jade Baird.

Matthew’s best man was his brother Ethan Krok, while Jade’s brother Andrew, who played matchmaker during the couple’s courtship, acted as groomsman. It was an idyllic day, followed by a two-week honeymoon soaking up the sun and learning how to scuba dive in Phuket, Thailand.

For Matthew, now living a stone’s throw from Bondi Beach with his new wife, marriage clearly beats any sitcom stardom, although he’s grateful for the financial security it brought him.

“Luckily, my parents invested my earnings for me when I was a kid. If they’d let me spend it then, I would have been a brat with lots of Ninja Turtles dolls and Lego!

“As it is, the money will be helpful when Jade and I go to buy a house. I’m due to graduate from uni next year, fingers crossed, and we’re both from big families so we want to have kids one day.”

And the pair couldn’t be more delighted that they are going to be together for ever.

“We’re not just married until death, but married into the next life. That’s our church’s belief.”

WA mum: I escaped my killer husband

Ali Ammoun had been charming when they first met, and Tanya could not have foreseen he would savagely attack both her and her mother.

Mother-of-eight Tanya Ammoun runs her fingers along the scars crisscrossing her scalp to the disfiguring “mark of Zorro” along her face ? harrowing reminders of the night she was left for dead, choking on her own blood.

But while time has healed the physical wounds the Fremantle teacher’s aide suffered during a vicious stabbing frenzy, the chilling flashbacks remain.

“Sometimes I’m strapping the baby into the car seat, or supermarket shopping, when I’m back there and it’s happening all over again,” says Tanya, 38.

“It’s like some awful, surreal three-dimensional horror movie, where I hear the knife squelching into my flesh, and can smell and taste the blood again as I waited to die,” she says.

“Then I look at my children and remind myself how lucky I am to be here, and how my love for them kept me alive that night as I lay drowning in my own blood on my neighbour’s front porch.”

Tanya fled her abusive 13-year marriage to wealthy businessman Ali Ammoun in 2006, never dreaming his hatred would climax in such a hideous way.

Now, as Ammoun, 49, begins a 16-year jail sentence for his shocking crime, Tanya talks for the first time of the terrifying hours of violence.

Angelina Jolie: Addicted to Botox

She has six young children and a crazy lifestyle, but the actress looks younger by the day.

With six kids to look after, including baby twins, anyone could forgive Angelina Jolie for looking a little tired and haggard — but the 33-year-old mum has sparked whispers by looking as fresh faced as a teenager at recent red-carpet events.

In October, Angelina admitted to being “exhausted” by the strain of raising a large family, and worried onlookers by appearing tired and gaunt — but just three months later she is looking wrinkle-free, relaxed and glowing.

Experts say the sudden improvement in Ange’s complexion is not a result of more bed rest.

“She’s getting Botox,” an insider told Life & Style magazine, revealing the secret behind Angelina’s smooth complexion. “She’s been getting treatments every few months.

“She’s a perfectionist when it comes to her looks and getting Botox has become a part of that.”

Kate’s mum tells: She’ll never marry Wills

The mother of the princess-in-waiting hints that Kate is sick of putting her life on hold and playing second fiddle to William’s royal duties.

The mother of princess-in-waiting Kate Middleton has told friends that her daughter may never marry Prince William.

It’s come as a huge shock to royal watchers, who were expecting an engagement announcement in the New Year.

A disappointed Carole Middleton has confided to close friends that Wills’ military plans have thrown a spanner in the works and that Kate, who turns 27 on January 9, may be left waiting for her Prince to pop the question.

In November, William, 26, announced that he’d be delaying his retirement from military duty until age 31, serving with the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue squadron. He reportedly told Kate that his “military has to come first”.

“Carole is very concerned that it might not happen,” a friend told London’s Daily Mail newspaper. “She was at a social event recently and Kate and William came up in conversation. Carole said, ‘Of course, we just don’t know what Kate’s going to do now’.

“The feeling is very much that there might not be a wedding at all.”
