My tongue used to be my tummy

**By Angela Wormald

Little cancer battler Daniel Sewell has got his health problem licked.**

As adorable Daniel Sewell stares up at his loving mother Allison and says “Mum”, her eyes cloud with emotion. Gently, she kisses the top of his blonde head. It’s a memorable moment in any mum’s life when her child utters their first word, but for Allison the gift has come after years of stress and trauma. The family once feared Daniel may not survive, let alone talk.

Now aged four, Daniel was given a “new” tongue during pioneering surgery for mouth cancer at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle in the UK more than three years ago.

Surgeons took out three-quarters of tiny Daniel’s tongue and replaced it with muscle from his abdominal lining. And now, with his cancer in remission for three years, Daniel is a happy school kid who couldn’t be chattier.

Daniel’s father Richard had spotted his son’s badly swollen tongue when he was 13 months old and his quick action saved the boy’s life — early detection of oral cancer means a survival chance of 90 per cent.

“I was just as ignorant as anyone about mouth cancer,” says mum Allison. “I always thought it was something the older generation suffered from and believed it was linked with smoking…”

A heartbroken John Travolta has told how he desperately tried to save his son Jett’s life.

The devastated star has talked about the terrifying moments after the 16-year-old boy collapsed from a seizure.

John frantically performed CPR for 20 minutes while waiting for paramedics to arrive at the family’s Bahamas holiday home, but was unable to save the child he adored.

As Hollywood rallied around the 54-year-old actor, his wife Kelly Preston, 46, and their daughter Ella, 8, John talked of his love for his firstborn child.

“I did everything I could to keep Jett alive,” John told his family lawyer, Michael McDermott. “There was a slight pulse, so we did all we could. I tried the kiss of life for about 20 minutes. I wouldn’t give up.”

The New York Daily News reports that John begged attending paramedics to save his son’s life, pleading, “Help me, help me! I’m losing him.”

Katie’s extreme Scientology diet

The star’s shocking appearance appears to be the result of a bizarre, Scientology-approved diet…

Katie Holmes’ health looks to be suffering under a bizarre Scientology-approved detoxification process that has led to her shedding around 10kg from her already thin figure.

Insiders say the wife of Tom Cruise now weighs only 52kg despite her tall 175cm frame, placing her Body Mass Index firmly in the underweight category.

Sources say the actress, who is still splitting her days between her Broadway performances and taking care of two-year-old daughter Suri, has been following a purification program, known as Clear Body, Clear Mind, which utilises a regime of exercise, saunas and vitamins and minerals to help cleanse the body.

“When Katie embarked on a new diet, Tom was insistent that it stick to the codes of Scientology,” explains an insider. “The purification program is all about ridding the body of harmful toxins and calls for cutting out refined sugar, junk foods and carcinogens that create toxicity.

“It’s very gruelling — long periods of fasting on nothing more than water and juice, and heavy doses of niacin, colonics and long heated saunas to purify the body.”

The program advocates five hours of saunas and exercise each day for the best results.
