Delta and Darren’s LA love lunch

Delta and Darren's LA love lunch

The double Ds are going from strength to strength.

They’ve been doing their utmost to keep their blossoming romance under wraps, but The Voice’s hottest couple, coach Delta Goodrem and host Darren McMullen, just can’t seem to stay away from each other. And now the smitten pair have followed each other all the way from our shores to sunny LA!

Certainly the two – who were spotted holding hands and stealing kisses at Lady Gaga’s recent Sydney show – looked loved-up over lunch at a popular eatery. And onlookers say Darren couldn’t take his eyes off Delta as they shared a laid-back meal.

While chatter has circulated for months that the Aussie songstress, 27, had fallen for the Scottish-born TV presenter, 30 – with a source from The Voice set telling The Daily Telegraph back in May, “It’s been on for a while” – the pair kept mum on the rumoured romance.

“Darren spent a lot of time with Delta at her rented penthouse apartment in Kings Cross, but both went to great lengths to keep their romance secret, with even Darren’s closest friends kept in the dark while The Voice was taking Australia by storm,” a well-placed source tells Woman’s Day.

Octomum’s dad reveals she is moving to Australia

Octomum's dad reveals she is moving to Australia

Debt-ridden mum of 14 Nadya Suleman is on her way to Sydney.

Octomum’s despairing dad Ed Suleman is adamant that moving to Australia is the only way to save his destitute daughter. In an exclusive interview with Woman’s Day, the embarrassed and heartbroken 69-year-old says he’s already made secret emigration plans.

“People in America hate my daughter and that breaks my heart, so I think the only solution is for us to all move away,” says Ed. “And I can’t think of a better place for us to go than Australia, as living in California has become toxic for Nadya. She’s constantly being attacked by paparazzi and judged by her peers for going on government funding. “Australians are very laid back … they’re very friendly and I think our family would fit in nicely there.”

The family won’t be at a total loss when they arrive, as one of Nadya’s uncles, John, lives in Sydney and works in the fishing industry. Though his house is bound to be much too small to fit the oversized family, he supports the move.

“He said whenever we’re ready to move he will help us get settled in,” reveals Ed. Nadya already had six children when she gave birth to the octuplets in 2009, and having made no financial provision for them, has since faced crippling debts. Bankrupt and with her house repossessed, she reached an all-time low in May when she starred in a porn film to make ends meet.

How Nicole Kidman saved Katie Holmes

How Nicole Kidman saved Katie Holmes

With her marriage to Tom Cruise crumbling, Katie Holmes was determined she wouldn’t suffer the same fate as his heartbroken former wife, Nicole Kidman.

Of all the lessons Katie Holmes learned while she was married to Tom Cruise, the most crushing one was how his two eldest children effectively turned their backs on their mother Nicole Kidman. “They don’t even call me mum anymore,” admitted a miserable Nicole, who divorced Tom in 2001 and has rarely seen Isabella, 19, and Connor, 17, since.

For Katie, the thought of losing her precious daughter Suri, 6, under the same circumstances is believed to have been the catalyst for her bombshell divorce application and sole custody filing on June 29. It’s now known that Katie, 33, believed her biggest fear was about to become a reality – that her little girl would be shipped off without her parents to Scientology school Sea Organisation, where young children sign a “one billion year” contract as a pledge to the religion.

While the church – in which Tom, 50, is believed to be leader David Miscavige’s right-hand man – denies Suri was destined for the school, Katie refused to take any chances that her daughter would become estranged from her, as Nicole’s kids did from their mother.

“Bella and Connor are devoted to their father and Scientology,” a source close to the family says. “Katie saw this first-hand, and this is one of the reasons she filed for sole custody. She will not be relegated to a secondary role in Suri’s life, and she is prepared to fight Tom in court.” After seeing how Nicole and Tom’s 2001 shock split played out, it’s no wonder the Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark star and her legal team are being so aggressive.

Choosing the right dog for your family

Choosing the right dog for your family

Getting a new puppy isn’t, and shouldn’t, be as simple a matter as heading off to the local RSPCA or pet store and selecting the one that best takes your fancy. Before you start puppy shopping you should seriously consider what factors will help you find the right fit not only for your own, but also the dog’s, essential needs.

“The wrong choice can be horrendous,” says Val Edwards, director of Bark Busters Australia.

“We see many people who have made the wrong choice and while we can turn many dogs around we believe that prevention is better than cure,” she says.

“The wrong choice of dog can turn out to be a dog that is destructive, especially if it spends too much time alone, and can cause families a lot of unhappiness and anguish, whereas the right dog will bring years of happiness and joy and can become an integral part of the family.”

Edwards believes the single most important factor to consider is how much time you can devote to the dog’s training and education. Knowing this can help determine whether you should consider a full-grown dog as opposed to a puppy.

Other key things to think about include the size of your home and garden; the age of the children in the family (small children can be overwhelmed by a large dog); your budget and the cost of health care and insurance; the dog’s training needs and method of training; and whether or not you will need to buy two dogs for companionship.

John Harkin, canine behavioural consultant and professional dog trainer from AUSDOG says that most people don’t put nearly enough time into researching the right selection and that it can be hard to do so because “rarely will you ever find a critique written about a breed that does not say they are a fantastic dog”.

“Most are fantastic, but for what? Border collies were bred for herding, beagles for hunting, golden retrievers for retrieval, huskies for pulling sleds,” Harkin says.

“All the above are good dogs but do you have anything for them to do to occupy their minds short of a boring walk around the block or a half hour running in the park?” he says.

“Twenty-four hours is a long time for a dog that has been bred to do something to do nothing, and then people wonder why dogs spend their time barking and being destructive.”

His best advice is to give it a lot of thought and speak with many dog owners and professionals. Consult vets, dog trainers, groomers, and kennel proprietors that handle and work with a multitude of breeds and have the opportunity to observe breeds in many different environments.

“The big plus is if you put in the time and effort to select the right dog, you will never have a better friend for you and your family for many years to come,” Harkin says.

Best breeds for families include:

  • West Highland white terrier;

  • Jack Russell terrier;

  • King Charles spaniel;

  • labradoodle;

  • spoodle;

  • cavoodle;

  • German shepherd;

  • Golden retriever;

  • labrador;

  • Rottweilers; and

  • all mixed breeds.

Katie Holmes revealed divorce plans in interview

Six weeks before Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, she gave an interview about the "new phase" she was about to enter.
Katie Holmes in US Elle magazine.

The world was stunned when Katie Holmes announced she was divorcing Tom Cruise, but it seems the actress wasn’t as secretive about her plans as previously thought.

In an interview conducted in mid-May for an upcoming issue of US Elle magazine, Katie said she was getting ready to enter a “new phase” in her life and expressed excitement for what the future held.

“I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin,” Katie told the magazine. “I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out.

“I’m starting to come into my own. It’s like a new phase.”

Katie — who also posed for a seductive photo shoot to accompany the interview — also offered a cryptic answer to a question about what it was like to be Mrs Tom Cruise.

“He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years,” she said. “I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.”

Katie, 33, and Tom, 50, are due in court in New York on July 17 to discuss custody of their six-year-old daughter Suri.

What drove Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes apart

Tom Cruise has been in more blockbusters than any other star, but for the past 20 years, his career has been overshadowed by one thing: Scientology.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

They reportedly have armed men following Katie Holmes 24 hours a day and are said to have poisoned Nicole Kidman’s adopted children against her — so what is the real story behind the Church of Scientology?

Tom Cruise has been in more blockbusters than any other star, but for the past 20 years, his career has been overshadowed by one thing: Scientology.

The 50-year-old star was introduced to the bizarre religion by his first wife Mimi Rogers in the late 1980s and quickly became obsessed with it.

Tom’s devotion to the sci-fi cult has been blamed for the end of his marriage to his third wife Katie Holmes, as well as the demise of his relationships with Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz.

As Tom and Katie prepare to face court to battle for custody of their daughter Suri, the spotlight has fallen on Tom’s other children, Bella and Connor.

Tom and Nicole adopted the kids in the 1990s, and raised them together until they divorced in 2001.

But while the teenagers now enjoy a close relationship with their father, they are said to be practically estranged from Nicole, and several former members of the Church of Scientology claim the religion is 100 percent to blame.

Former Scientologist leader Marty Rathbun told the Hollywood Reporter that senior church member Tommy Davis actively poisoned Isabella and Connor against Nicole, feeding them “false information”.

“Tommy told them over and over again their mother was a sociopath, and after a while they believed him,” Rathbun claimed. “They had daily sessions with Tommy. I was there. I saw it.”

Another unnamed former member said Katie Holmes is determined Scientology will not succeed in cutting her off from her children.

“You’re either in or out when it comes to Scientology,” the source said. “That’s why Katie is making custody such an issue in the divorce petition. If you’re out, the way she seems to be, they want to cut you off from everyone, including your kids.”

Katie’s parents are reportedly terrified of how the Church of Scientology will react to their daughter’s public betrayal.

They are said to be insisting Katie or her bodyguards check in with them hourly to make sure she is safe, especially after claims the actress was being followed by “heavily armed” men working for the church.

“Katie’s father and mother are in constant communication with their daughter,” a source told RadarOnline.com.

“They are being told what she is doing and where she is with Suri. One of Katie’s bodyguards is also calling her father throughout the day and night to inform him of Katie and Suri’s physical location and there is an electronic security log that Katie’s parents receive that is updated hourly.

“Katie is taking these extraordinary measures for obvious reasons. She knows now that in the eyes of Scientology she is the enemy. Her father advised her to spare no expense in hiring the best security team possible.”

Katie has also reportedly hired a new staff, at her parent’s insistence. Mr and Mrs Holmes were said to be concerned their daughter’s old employees were under the influence of the Church of Scientology.

“Katie’s past bodyguards were Scientologists and she just didn’t feel that she could trust them, so they were fired the day before she filed for divorce,” the source continued.

“Katie already had her new team in place and Suri was already in the new apartment when Katie told the old team their services were no longer going to be needed.

“Katie was at the apartment she shared with Tom and when she stepped out into the hallway she had four new bodyguards that took her downstairs, where she got into the car and drove off to her new life. It was very, very dramatic.”

Tom and Katie’s divorce has also brought another mysterious Scientology issue into focus.

Shelly Miscavige — the wife of Scientology head David Miscavige and the woman who allegedly introduced Tom and Katie — has not been seen in public for five years, leading many to ask what has happened to her.

Several theories on Shelly’s whereabouts exist, including claims she died from cancer, and reports that she is in hiding after escaping the controversial religion.

A spokesman for the Church of Scientology has denied all the sinister claims, saying people speaking against the church were disgruntled and looking for 15 minutes of fame.

“All of these people are excommunicated self-promoters who are sadly exploiting a private family matter for their own personal financial gain,” the church said in a statement.

“They cannot be believed given they have acquired no firsthand knowledge of the church for many years and have a record of making false and/or misleading statements about the church.”

Scientology is a contentious religion based on the writings of sci-fi author L Ron Hubbard. It preaches, among other things, the existence of aliens as superior guiding beings.
