Dearest Gentle Reader, here’s what to expect from Bridgerton Season 4

Alert the Ton - Production has begun!
Loading the player...

The Ton is desperate for a morsel of gossip about Bridgerton Season 4 after Season 3 positively swept us off our feet. And now, we finally have some tea.

From the scandals to the secrets, do not fret, dear readers. Here’s everything you need to know about Bridgerton Season 4.

Let’s go Benedict! (Image: Netflix)

WILL THERE BE A BRIDGERTON SEASON 4?

Yes! Netflix renewed Bridgerton for Season 3 and Season 4 all the way back in 2021 when Season 2 was being filmed. And plans haven’t changed – Nicola Coughlin recently confirmed that Season 4 is still a go.

WHO WILL SEASON 4 OF BRIDGERTON BE ABOUT?

Netflix has confirmed that Benedict Bridgerton is the newest suitor of the marriage mart. Yes, it’s true – his story is coming in Season 4!

The news was revealed in a teaser, which featured many pivotal moments from Benedict in seasons past. It ended by cutting to new footage of Luke being told that it’s time for him to try on a new suit.

“I already have an outfit for tonight,” the actor insists.

“Oh no, it’s not for tonight,” an off-screen voice hints. “It’s for the masquerade ball.”

Dearest gentle readers, the marriage mart just got more exciting. (Image: Netflix)

Avid Bridgerton book fans get the hint. It’s at a masquerade ball held by his mother Violet (Ruth Gemmell) where Benedict first stumbles upon his wife-to-be Sophie Beckett – a character who has officially been cast as emerging Australian actress Yerin Ha! She is known for Stan-original miniseries Bad Behaviour and Dune: Prophecy.

However, their love story – like so many of his siblings’ – brings its fair share of the crave-worthy drama viewers can’t get enough of before the couple finds their happily ever after.

Tying it all together, at the end of Season 3, Eloise promised to return from Scotland in time for their mother’s masquerade ball.

Author of the Bridgerton series Julia Quinn also took to Instagram, sharing the reel Netflix made for the big announcement, captioning it: “Dearest Gentle Viewer… It’s Benophie time!! Yours truly, JQ”.

While the Bridgerton cast and Netflix remained especially tight-lipped about who would be taking the lead after Season 3 ended, there were some clues in ‘Polin’s’ season that significantly pointed to the second-eldest Bridgerton taking the lead.

For one, we learned in the final episode of Season 3 that Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie, would be accompanying her newlywed sister Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and her husband John Stirling, Earl of Kilmartin (Victor Alli) to Scotland. So despite chit-chat around Eloise taking the lead, it was evident that it wasn’t going to happen in Season 4.

And while the producers are clearly building up Francesca’s story, with the controversial introduction of Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza), it seems more fitting that she will take the lead in Season 5 or 6 at this point.

ALL SIGNS POINTED TO BENEDICT

Benedict (Luke Thompson), on the other hand, was perfectly ripe for Season 4. Season 3 saw him exploring ‘infinite love’ and wondering what his true purpose is. It’s something he discussed with Eloise on the swings in Season 3, saying, “It feels right now that the next thing I might learn may change me entirely.”

Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, also alluded to the fact that Benedict’s story would take the lead in Season 4 earlier this year. In an interview with  L’Beaute Homme, he said, “I love Benedict’s story, this season is very free and I think it’s a very nice place to be on the set. He is a free spirit and a kind of rebel. I can’t wait to see Benedict’s story next season.”

Benedict, of course, played mum. In an interview with The View in June, the Bridgerton star said, “The honest answer is ‘I don’t know’, but I know it’s so lovely [and] one of the best things about TV jobs is you get to really explore a character long-form like that and sort of fill him in slowly.”

He added that, “It’d be really great to dive in” but “We’ll have to wait and see.”

WHAT IS BENEDICT’S STORY IN BRIDGERTON?

Book four, titled Romancing Mister Bridgerton, details Colin and Penelope Featherington – the leads in Season 3. The original book order had Benedict’s romance take centre stage over its third installment, entitled An Offer From a Gentleman. Now we know it’s just been pushed to Season 4. If other seasons of Bridgerton offer any indication, then it’s safe to say Benedict’s season will be worth the wait.

In An Offer From a Gentleman, Benedict meets and falls head over heels for a mysterious woman at the masquerade ball. It takes him some time, but he finally tracks her down.

He learns that the object of his affection is the daughter of an earl, but (cue: Cinderella) her resentful stepmother has done her best to keep her hidden from society. She wants to keep the beautiful Sophie away from the Ton’s most eligible bachelors to give her ‘real’ daughters first dibs.

As for more of the story line, it seems Benedict may also be stepping up to the plate as interim Viscount Bridgerton, with his elder brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and his wife Kate (Simone Ashley) staying in India to welcome their first child.

“I’m excited for where we’re going with him in season 4,” showrunner Jess Brownell told Tudum, teasing, “There are a lot of things I want to say about it, but I should probably wait.”

WHEN WILL SEASON 4 PREMIERE?

Luke and Yerin have natural chemistry. (Image: Instagram)

Jess Brownell confirmed to Refinery29 that they were in the middle of writing Bridgerton Season 4 in May 2024. She claims, “It’s some of my best work”.

Sadly though, Bridgerton fans are in for a long wait to judge that for themselves. A lengthy two-year wait, in fact. Apparently, it’s rather time-consuming to bring Regency-era dramas to life.

Jess told The Hollywood Reporter, “We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language.

“And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up, but somewhere in that range.”

Fortunately, production began 17 September 2024. So, the carriage wheels are finally in motion, bringing Bridgerton Season 4 that.much closer to the show’s very patient fans.

The news of production beginning was shared on social media, with Bridgerton Netflix sharing new images of Luke and Yerin alongside a caption that read: “Esteemed members of the Ton, it is with great joy that we inform you that Bridgerton Season 4 is officially in production!”

BRIDGERTON CAST SEASON 4

Netflix has yet to confirm the official Bridgerton Season 4 cast. However, now that cameras have started rolling, three new cast members have been unveiled.

Katie Leung, who played Cho Chang in the Harry Potter series, is taking on the role of Lady Araminta Gun – a twice-married (and twice-widowed) aristocrat with two daughters in the marriage mart.

Her two on-screen daughters, Rosamund and Posy, are being played by Michelle Mao and Isabella Wei. Rumour has it Rosamund is beautiful, confident and has Benedict in her sights. While Posy, on the other hand, is said to be kinder and often overshadowed.

And if the previous seasons are any indication, then fans will also be happy to see a lot of familiar faces return. Nicola, for one, recently confirmed that she will be returning to Season 4 alongside Luke, resuming their roles as Penny and Colin. The pair had some incredible chemistry on and off set, so it will be great to see them back in action in the fourth season.

In addition, characters like Violet, Eloise, Francesca, Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) and Gregory (Will Tilston), who are central to the storyline, are sure to be regulars throughout the season.

Will Anthony and Kate be in Season 4? In Season 3, the lovebirds decided to go to India to have their Bridgerton baby. Some are speculating they’ll be back in Season 4, baby in tow. All we know for sure now is that Jonathan Bailey will be returning.

He confirmed that Anthony would be returning in the fourth series, sharing that he has “a couple of weeks etched out in my schedule for returning”.

Jess Brownell told Teen Vogue, “‘The strength of sending them off to India for a little while is that it does leave the door open for them to come back, schedules allowing.”

The Bridgerton siblings look less than pleased as mother Violet smiles at someone out of frame.

Later, she added that it’s not really “fair” to insist actors play “background” roles when they have other projects they’re working on. She said, “We love Jonny and Simone, and we’ll have them back as much as we are able to.”

Lucky for fans, the actors admit that they’re not ready to say goodbye to their characters just yet.

When asked if they’d be back for Season 4 at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, Simone said, “I really hope so!

“Both Johnny and I, we adore our characters, Kate and Anthony, so much and their relationship and what they mean for the show,” she continued. “I think we’ll do all we can with our schedules to make it work so that we can, hopefully.”

WHERE CAN YOU WATCH SEASON 4?

Upon its release, Season 4 will be available to stream on Netflix. In the meantime, Bridgerton fans can get their Regency-era romance fix by re-watching seasons one through three and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which are currently on the streaming platform.

Jessica Mauboy is reportedly pregnant with her first child

Congratulations!

Jessica Mauboy is reportedly pregnant, according to The Daily Telegraph.

This is the Australian singer’s first child with husband Themeli Magripilis.

The Daily Telegraph alleges that Jessica Mauboy, 35, told her family, close friends, and creative team the exciting news over the past week.

It’s believed the former Australian Idol star is around five months pregnant, and is due to give birth in early 2025.

Jess kept her pregnancy under wraps over the weekend when she performed at a Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and Children’s Cancer Institute fundraiser in Western Australia.

The 35-year-old has largely kept her relationship out of the spotlight, and has only attended a handful of public events with Themeli by her side.

The pair have been together since the singer was 18, and met at a nightclub in Darwin.

“We had a girls’ night,” Jess told Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley during an episode of their Life Uncut podcast about the first time she met Themeli.

“[My friend] points to this person in the crowd and goes ‘I want you to crab claw him on the butt, like his cheek’.

“At the time I didn’t know who he was, but my friends had known of him and thought he was a very handsome man.”

After seeing him around the city, Jess decided to ask a friend for his number, and the rest is history.

“I texted and said ‘I’d really like this to work, how about you?’ and I didn’t think I would do anything in my life like that,” she shared.

Due to Jess’ career, the pair were in a long-distance relationship for many years, which the singer confessed almost tore them apart.

“We were eight years in a long distance relationship and we felt really apart, we weren’t doing things together, we weren’t creating a future,” the former Voice coach told The Daily Telegraph.

“Finally we worked out how to salvage our relationship and made the move together and eight more years later, we’re living this beautiful life together in Sydney.”

Jess and Themeli got engaged in 2019 and officially tied the knot in July 2022 in a beautiful Darwin ceremony surrounded by 300 guests.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

The Block’s Paige defends builder Zak after he quit the show following a disagreement with Maddy & Charlotte

The former contestant is setting the record straight.
Loading the player...

It was a chaotic week on The Block for house one, with Maddy and Charlotte’s builder Zak deciding to leave the show after they had a heated disagreement.

Now, former contestant Paige Beechey has spoken out to defend Zak, who she and partner Jesse worked with for the first four weeks of the 2024 season.

Charlotte and builder Zak had an argument and he decided to leave The Block 2024.
Zak left The Block as he and Charlotte didn’t see eye-to-eye. (Credit: Nine)

Since coming in late, pink team Maddy and Charlotte struggled to form a relationship with their builder Zak, with the latter labelling him as “intimidating.” They tried to talk things through and clear the air, but Zak didn’t see a way forward and decided to depart the show, taking his team with him.

After the episode aired, Paige took to social media to share her support for Zak and urge viewers to be kind and not attack his small business based solely on what was shown on television. Read her full statement below.

“From my personal experience, Zak was nothing but a passionate, respectful, hardworking member of our team. I found him very approachable and easy to talk to, even as a woman,” Paige shared in the The Block 2024 Phillip Island Facebook group.

“Zak didn’t have a single issue, when I spoke to him, asked for his help or even told him how I wanted things to go on site. He was always there with open ears, a logical approach and an amazing attitude.

“Amongst all the chaos and the most busiest of times, I could not believe how patient Zak was with teaching me – teaching me how to cut ties so carefully, how to use a corrugated gun to sheet and building up my confidence with any new tool I was using. God knows he didn’t have the time and he didn’t have to, but he was someone who uplifted me to have a go at anything, especially as a woman.”

Paige has spoken out to defend builder Zak on The Block 2024.

Paige continued, “Zak and I forged a fantastic relationship where we were able to not only work under immense pressure together, but we could do it having a laugh, ripping into each other, and having tough conversations if we needed it. As a ‘client’, I never batted an eye at the way he spoke or interacted with anyone. He was there when I needed a shoulder to cry on, he was there when I needed to vent and he was there to pull my head back in the game when I needed it. Zak was also a fan favourite amongst every single person on that site and very well respected.

“Zak was all in with The Block, but one of the most admirable qualities about Zak that I remember, was how he put his daughter and his family first no matter what. The way he always spoke about his family with such pride and care, speaks to the person he is at the core, and it was something I really admired.

“I haven’t stepped foot in one of these [Facebook] groups for 6 weeks and my Facebook is going straight back to being deleted once I hit post, but I wanted to post in defence of Zak to share this side of the experience you don’t get to see. It’s not to undermine any experience that Maddy and Charlotte felt by any means because what’s real for them is real and I sympathise with their position; but it’s to bring humanity back to all of this and implore you to remember that there are more sides to what you watch every night.”

Paige concluded, “Be more perceptive and don’t attack a business on a small island based on one experience a tv show put in front of you. If there was anything that was of importance to Jesse and I throughout this whole experience, it was working with all local trades, and respecting the island and the people who came with it. You don’t go around bashing any local tradesperson who is giving up their life, leisure, family and sanity to help out.

“Show some restraint towards his local business because you really don’t even know the half of it. Both Zak and the girls deserve big kudos for everything they did regardless of how it turned out.”

What is the best material to prevent chafing?

The best materials to prevent chafing are those that are moisture-wicking, breathable, and offer a smooth surface to reduce friction.

Synthetic fabrics like nylon and polyester are popular for their ability to keep skin dry and comfortable, while spandex adds stretch for a snug, friction-free fit.

Natural options like merino wool and bamboo are soft, breathable, and gentle on the skin, offering excellent moisture control and anti-bacterial properties. Microfiber, with its smooth texture, is also effective at reducing friction.

For the best results, many anti-chafing shorts combine these materials to offer the right balance of stretch, breathability, and moisture control. Look for products labelled as “seamless” or with flat-lock seams to minimise skin irritation further.

Despite starring in some of Australia’s biggest dramas, Stephen Peacocke admits he’s still “endlessly insecure”

'My heart was thumping.'
Loading the player...

There was a time when Stephen Peacocke found acting so stressful, it took a physical toll.

“When I started work in Home And Away, I was so nervous for the first two or three months – I was certain I was going to lose my job,” he tells TV WEEK.

(Credit: Supplied)

“When I came home from work, I could taste blood in my mouth just from talking at the back of my throat, which is the first thing you do when you’re nervous. Everything constricts.

“I was like a ball of tension until the first episodes went to air and I realised that the audience kind of liked it and it was OK.”

Thirteen years after the audience decided they “kind of liked” his Home And Away performance as Brax, Stephen, now 42, is one of Australian television’s most in-demand actors. He’s currently starring in three of the biggest dramas on free-to-air: RFDS, The Newsreader and new crime thriller Human Error. But the nerves are still there.

“Oh look, I’m endlessly insecure about what I do,” he admits with a laugh. “But with acting, you can never be too comfortable in what you’re doing. I find I’ve got to be thinking, ‘Is this really good enough?’ to get good stuff out of myself.”

Human Error follows the investigation into the shooting death of a suburban mum-to-be, a murder that baffles police. Stephen first heard about the series from director Fiona Banks when he was shooting comedy drama Five Bedrooms.

“She mentioned she was about to work on this project,” he says. “I looked into it a bit, and the story it’s inspired by was so tragic and shocking. And to play a character who’s a bit different to those I’ve done in the past couple of years was exciting.”

For Stephen, researching the role of Detective Dylan McKenzie wasn’t too hard. He just spoke to his “good mate”, who’s a retired police officer.

“That was the extent of my research – just annoying my mate with lots of conversations and lots of questions,” he explains.

More difficult was getting inside Dylan’s head. He’s a well-respected cop, head of the gangs unit, but he’s done something he shouldn’t have done. Stephen says he had to do “a bit of digging” to be able to understand why Dylan did what he did.

“This whole situation would be like the worst thing I could ever imagine being in myself,” he admits. “But I thought, ‘Well, you’ve got to justify it.’”

Not that Stephen minds being cast as a flawed character.

“The more flaws you can have in a character, the more interesting they are to play,” he says.

Publicity material for the show describes Dylan as “tough and sexy”, although Stephen laughs off the “sexy” tag.

“That was the one part of the casting that I really scratched my head about – why they got me!”

Stephen might deny he’s sexy, but there’s no doubt he’s popular. He already has three TV WEEK Logie Awards to his name and, at this year’s awards, was a presenter, alongside Michelle Lim Davidson, his co-star in The Newsreader.

“Whenever I have to speak publicly, I can’t eat or drink,” he explains. “So I was sitting there with my heart thumping. I’m getting a little better at it, but I still get so nervous.”

Later, when RFDS took out the Logie for Best Drama Program, Stephen had a reason to celebrate.

“It was genuinely a massive surprise and it made the whole night excellent for us [the cast and creators],” he says.

Stephen, who’s married to actress Bridgette Sneddon and has a young daughter, will soon be filming the third season of RFDS, in which he plays flight nurse Pete Emerson. This season will be shot in South Australia instead of Broken Hill, with locations including Adelaide and the Flinders Ranges.

“I’ve only been to Adelaide briefly, but we’re looking forward to exploring that,” Stephen says. “Then when we’re shooting on location, it should be really good.”

Having been born and raised in Dubbo, in regional New South Wales, Stephen says moving back to the country to live is “probably the goal at some point”.

“The good thing about this line of work is that, in between jobs, you can be anywhere, really,” he explains. “So as much as I enjoy short bursts of Sydney and Melbourne, I like the open spaces and particularly that red country out around Broken Hill, and even Dubbo. It’s what feels like home to me.”

If the TV roles should dry up, Stephen isn’t worried. It took him more than six years from the time he decided to become an actor until he scored his breakthrough role in Home And Away.

“I’ve done my share of sitting around and not getting really cool jobs,” he says. “I like the adventure of that. I chose a job that’s a bit risky, with a chance of unemployment, but the rewards are great. If you’re lucky enough to get a job, it’s so much fun. And it’s what I want to do.”
