Luke McGregor has met his match in wife Amy Thunig

She beat him to the proposal.

Aussie TV personality, writer and all around funny guy Luke McGregor is set to star in The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition with his mother.

So naturally, fans are curious to learn about what life behind the scenes looks like for this quirky Tasmanian.

From his rise to fame to how he continues to charm his fans and his recent marriage to Dr Amy Thunig, it’s all here.

HOW DID LUKE MCGREGOR GET FAMOUS?

Luke first came into the spotlight in 2013 as a guest on ABC’s Dirty Laundry Live. His awkward charm and humour quickly captured fan hearts. And he began to take the lead, starring in his own comedy shows like Rosehaven.

Over the years, the 40-year-old comedian has earned an endearing reputation for his refreshing openness and authenticity. He is who he is, and we can’t get enough of him!

WHO IS LUKE MCGREGOR’S PARTNER?

However, Luke’s biggest fan is arguably his wife Dr Amy Thunig. The star surprised fans when he revealed his engagement during an appearance on The Project

The two were engaged over Christmas, and it didn’t happen the way Luke thought it would.

He was planning to propose to Amy after the holidays. But she beat him to it!

“They did a 30-day countdown to Christmas, and the final gift was a Lego wedding chapel,” Luke shared. “When I opened up the chapel, they proposed.”

The unexpected proposal was the best present Luke could have asked for. And he, playfully, added that he gave his wife a necklace for Christmas in return.

Amy is an accomplished professional who’s just had an especially big couple of years. She published her memoir Tell Me Again, finished her PhD and became a research fellow within the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research at the University of Technology Sydney – all while working full time, raising a family, getting married and moving house.

The two eloped on Valentine’s Day. (Image: Instagram)

She acknowledges the hefty load in an interview with ABC, admitting that she hasn’t “stopped working” since she was 12.

“When you come from poverty you can’t stop because if you stop there is no safety net. I didn’t have the capacity to achieve what I wanted to achieve and rest at the same time,” Amy said.

“So I promised myself that once I reached a point where I had some kind of a safety net, then I needed to put rest into the schedule.”

WHEN DID LUKE MCGREGOR GET MARRIED?

Luke and Amy got married in a secret Valentine’s Day wedding in 2023.

True to form, Luke announced the big news that night with a casual Instagram post, simply captioned: “Hey, look at us.”

The low-key announcement was met with an outpouring of love and well-wishes from friends and fans.

Five years after their on-screen breakup, The Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield and Matt Agnew prove exes can be friends

No love lost here!
Loading the player...

While most Bachelor exes probably couldn’t stand to be in the same room as each other, it’s no sweat for Abbie Chatfield and Matt Agnew!

Five years ago, Matt broke Abbie’s heart on The Bachelor after confessing his love to fellow contestant Chelsie McLeod, but they’ve proven that exes truly can be friends.

The pair recently reunited to divulge secrets from their time on the reality show.

Since their season aired in 2019, Abbie Chatfield and Matt Agnew have reunited multiple times and forged a strong friendship.

In the latest episode of her podcast, It’s A Lot with Abbie Chatfield, she and Matt spoke about all things The Bachelor. From the hate and slut-shaming Abbie received, to their on-screen break up and current love lives, they really didn’t hold back.

They kicked things off by discussing the iconic ‘I’m a Gemini’ video that has gone viral on social media. Abbie and Matt cleared things up and confirmed that the clip, in which she responded to his statement that he was an astrophysicist by saying, “No way! I’m a Gemini,” was in fact edited by producers.

The pair expressed their frustration with the amount of editing that happened as they actually had many deep, personal and interesting conversations that viewers never got to see.

“[We had] conversations of substance and like you said, politics, feminism, all these things that actually were really interesting. And that all got cut because that’s not a good narrative for what they were trying to push,” Matt said.

The pair revealed that they had a really strong connection on the show, and Matt spoke about how difficult it was for him to break her heart in the finale.

“That was tough, a really tough day for you, again not as tough for me!  It was still hard because there was a genuine connection.

“It’s an intense situation for all parties I think. And having to do that and like literally stand there on camera knowing that I’m about to really hurt someone that I care about was a sh*t thing.”

It turns out that Abbie and Matt actually caught up with each other six months after their season aired, which they claimed was extremely healing for both of them as they were able to get clarification and closure.

“I was so confused. But we hung out. We clarified everything.

“And just also to be clear, nothing has ever happened between Matt and I off camera which is very funny,” Abbie quipped.

It’s been five years since their The Bachelor journey, and they’ve been good friends for quite a while now.

In fact, Matt is also friendly with Abbie’s current boyfriend, musician Adam Hyde!

“I’ve never felt less cool because this is like the coolest person I’ve ever met,” he said of meeting Adam for the first time.

They got a photo together to mark the moment they meant, which Abbie gushed over in a post on Instagram.

“Uh????? When Adam sends me a photo it’s usually either something horny or funny but I guess this is a combination of both??????????????????????????? Two loveliest men I know ❤ if @drmattagnew had chosen me I wouldn’t have met Adam so GRATEFUL ALL ROUND !!!!!!!!! EVERYTHING WORKS OUT IN THE END!!,” she wrote.

Elton John opens up about battle with “severe” infection

It’s causing vision loss.
Loading the player...

Elton John recently opened up about his battle with a serious eye infection.

The Rocket Man singer, 77, shared a statement on Instagram that said: “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.”

“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

His health battles can’t keep him down – Elton John is ‘still standing’. (Image: Getty)

He went on to express gratitude for his team of “excellent” doctors and nurses”.

And Elton was quick to praise his family – husband David Furnish and their sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11 – for taking “such good care” of him over the last several weeks.

Fortunately, Elton is feeling “positive” about where he is on his healing journey now. He said, “I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”

Signing off with “love and gratitude”, Elton shared the message with his fans and celeb friends, who flooded the comments with well-wishes.

Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace wrote: “Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you ♥️♥️♥️”.

Today Show co-host Al Roker chimed in, writing: “You are pure light and pray that light helps heal that eye. We love you, Sir Elton.”

Elton shared this throwback snap of himself, Zachary and Elijah in a birthday tribute to his husband David. (Image: Instagram)

Just last year, Elton suffered another health issue, landing him in the hospital in France. “We can confirm that following a slip yesterday at his home in the South of France, Elton visited the local hospital as a precautionary measure,” a rep for Elton told Page Six at the time.

“Following check-ups, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back at home and in good health.”

Then in 2017, it was revealed that the Lion King composer secretly battled prostate cancer, undergoing surgery to remove the gland.

However, despite his health battles, the star is “still standing” proud. As he should be – earlier this year, he won his first Emmy, earning him EGOT status. He’s just one of 19 people that have taken home an Emmy, an Oscar, a Tony and a Grammy. Well done, Sir!

Robert Irwin joins Prince William’s Earthshot Prize in new role

"The Earthshot Prize is a beacon of hope".
Loading the player...

Prince William made a huge statement at the third annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Singapore.

He reflected on how the past British Royals spent their time “highlighting lots” and bringing light to many different causes but he has decided to focus solely on a few different projects to make a change.

“The thing that ties it all together for me is about social leadership,” William told reporters.

“That’s what I’m trying to find my way in, is I care about so many things, and previously the family have been very much spotlighting brilliantly and going round and highlighting lots, I want to go a step further.”

“I want to actually bring change and I want to bring people to the table who can do the change if I can’t do it. And so it’s all about progressing, helping and advancing particular social causes that need to be given more support.”

Prince William is embarking on ending homelessness after announcing a new project in June.

“I’ve been in the homelessness sector for a long time now, and so rather than just being patron I want to do more, I want to actually build the homes, I want to provide them with the mental support, all the employment and the education they might need.” William shared the meaning behind his new venture.

“It’s all these wraparound services, it’s kind of going deeper and longer, than it is the case of just having loads of causes that you sort of turn up and keep an eye on.”

Prince William further explained, “It’s more about: how do I show my intent more? How do we do more for you? And give you a better, better future.”

“But you have to remain focused, if you spread yourself too thin you just can’t manage it and you won’t deliver the impact or the change that you really want to happen.”

Prince William showcased his efforts by stopping at the Centre for Wildlife Forensics. (Image: Getty)

In Singapore, Prince William shared his feelings on the ceremony, “The key aim is that every year we’ve got to get bigger and reach more people – the profile is massive so we need to make that bigger and better.”

“And this is the first time we’ve come into Asia, so it’s important the Asian market see us, know what the actual prize is. We’ve predominantly obviously done Western with the UK and Boston. So I think it’s all about working out: where do we go next? How do we join the dots?”

Prince William has made his efforts known by fully immersing himself in the causes he chooses.

He spent his last day in Singapore taking a hike at the Tree Top Walk and then headed to the Centre for Wildlife Forensics.

The centre is a special laboratory that is linked to the international effort to monitor the DNA of illegal wildlife products as law enforcement teams try to track where the animal parts may have originated.

Robert Irwin expressed his excitement over William’s leadership, “I have dedicated my life to wildlife conservation. I share that with Prince William and I admire him greatly.”

“He is certainly someone I look up to and I hope I can create the same sort of change that he does. He is a real beacon to everyone in the conservation field.”

Earthshot exemplifies everything we are trying to achieve on such a massive scale. We have been doing all this for years. Now, for Earthshot Prize to come along, that takes all of these issues to the world on a level that is unrivalled.”

ROBERT: EARTHSHOT PRIZE GLOBAL AMBASSADOR

A lot can happen in a year, and Prince William has stayed true to his vision, naming Robert a global ambassador of the Earthshot Prize to find solutions to environmental challenges.

Robert joins South African actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha as one of the inaugural Earthshot Global Ambassadors.

“I’m honoured to join Nomzamo as the first Earthshot Global Ambassador to help place a brighter spotlight on the inspiring changemakers saving the planet,” the wildlife warrior said.

Robert and Nomzamo are dedicated changemakers. (Image: Instagram)

He added, “The Earthshot Prize is a beacon of hope for all of us who care about the environment and about our ability to ensure a liveable future for ourselves and future generations.

“Healthy oceans, ecosystems, and species equal a healthy planet, and The Earthshot Prize recognises the importance of investing and helping grow solutions that protect these critical resources.

“I’m proud to be one of the first Earthshot Global Ambassadors to help place a brighter spotlight on the inspiring changemakers saving the planet.”

Prince William’s Earthshot Prize looks to recognise the groundbreaking ideas and innovations that can help the planet, awarding leaders, entrepreneurs and businesses across five categories – Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build a Waste-Free World and Fix Our Climate.

The upcoming Earthshot Prize ceremony is set to take place in Cape Town, South Africa this November. It will award an impactful $1.3 million to organisations or individuals that have innovative solutions to address the planet’s most pressing challenges, providing them with the support needed to scale their ideas.
