Woah! We don’t know about you but we are still reeling from the beautiful trainwreck that was the 2015 MTV VMAs.
With Miley Cyrus as host it was sure to be one hell of a show.
Thanks to on stage blow-ups, mid-song break downs and pantless offensive jokes, there was plenty to keep us entertained at the world’s most controversial awards ceremony.
Despite the plethora of polarising moments this year, none were as outlandish as Kanye West’s announcement that he will run for President in 2020 – information that we are still trying to process.
Yeezy gave a lengthy acceptance speech for the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, which Taylor Swift presented him.
During the segment he detailed a whole bunch of events and tidbits we are still deciphering, while also apologising to the Shake it Off singer for the notorious 2009 “Imma let you finish,” moment.
He confirmed to the audience, “Ya’ll might be thinking right now, ’Did he smoke something before he came out here?’ The answer is yes, I rolled up a little something. I knocked the edge off!” Ahh, things are starting to make sense now.
Before announcing: “And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president!” No Kanye, you’re wrong. Nobody could have guessed that. While Yeezy’s big announcement was the talk of the night, there’s way more juicy WTF moments that went down.
Click through to check out the rest of the most show-stopping, outrageous and just darn frightening moments for the 2015 MTV VMAs.
“And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president,” um…what? Kanye West announcing his Presidential aspirations will go down in history as one of the most controversial VMA moments! Not to mention how Yeezy unsuspectingly coined a powerful new phrase during his 12 minute rant: “Listen to the kids, bro!”
Weeks ago Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj had a very public Twitter feud after the Superbass singer complained she wasn’t nominated for Video of the Year because her clip didn’t feature “women with very slim bodies,” like Taylor’s Bad Blood clip. However they buried the hatchet and opened the show together singing their respective hit songs The Night is Still Young and Bad Blood – causing lots of speculation that the online fight was manufactured!
It was a big night for Nicki, who blasted host Miley Cyrus live on stage for revealing in a prior interview that the rapper shouldn’t have publically complained that she didn’t get nominated for Video of the Year. Just after thanking her pastor and the good Lord for her Hip Hop Video of the Year Award she turned to the show’s host and fumed, “Now back to this b**** who had a lot to say about me the other day in the press. Miley, what’s good?” Cue the awkward silence.
Just in case you didn’t already have an inkling, Miley Cyrus dabbles with drugs and on Sunday night she made sure the world knew it. There were a lot of bizarre moments from the Hannah Montana star on the night, including an uncomfortable sketch with Snoop Dogg and a hash brownie. But perhaps worst of all – openly sharing a joint with one of the journalists in the press room.
For all her quirks and idiosyncrasies Miley Cyrus did deliver some good at the VMAs. The 22-year-old shocked the audience by announcing that she just dropped an album called Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz out of the blue and completely free! Naturally, the polarising figure enlisted the help of some drag queens from the reality show Ru Paul’s Drag Race with the bombshell revelation.
Australia’s funny girl Rebel Wilson sparked outrage this year with a lukewarm joke that caused offence. The 35-year-old walked on stage in full police uniform, then began to strip down to just a t-shirt that read, “F**ck tha stripper police.” “A lot of people have problems with the police, but I really hate police strippers” she quipped. However protesters for the Black Lives Matter movement, who campaign against the brutality of Police Officers toward young African Americans, were unimpressed as they slammed the actress on social media.
After his high energy performance of his new song What Do You Mean Justin Bieber got very emotional on stage. As he received a standing ovation from the crowd at the end of his first VMA performance in five years the feels seemed to get the better of the Biebs, who has spent the last few months reassessing his life with the help of the Big Guy upstairs.
