Oh we just can’t wait… to see Disney’s live-action remake of the animated classic The Lion King. After the success of The Jungle Book remake in 2016, our expectations for the epic musical are high – as high as the notes young Symba sings in those memorable toe-tappers.
But, if you thought, like us, you’ve reached peak excitement at the sheer thought of this childhood favourite returning to the big screen, hold onto your VCR tapes, because Disney has released the full cast list and it is everything we could have hoped for – and some! The lineup has some huge names – we’re talking Beyoncé huge.
Confirming the dream voice cast on Twitter, Disney announced the lead roll of Nala will be filled by arguably one of the most supreme voices in the world, superstar talent Beyoncé. Queen Bey will be singing and acting alongside Donald Glover (also known as music act Childish Gambino) as Simba and the hilarious Seth Rogan as Pumbaa.
Until this recent update, Disney has been playing it coy, releasing very few details about the upcoming film. What we already know: the film is set for release in 2019; the director on the project is Jon Favreau, who also directed The Jungle Book remake; and, the crew are using the term ‘live-action’ loosely, given the film will present no actual human characters, instead photorealistic CGI.
We also know, with all this talent on board, the soundtrack is going to be a masterpiece! We are certainly can feel the love tonight.
