This week just got a whole lot better…
After the heartbreaking split of what is undoubtedly the most iconic girl group of the nineties, Victoria Beckham turned her back on the music world to focus on re-branding herself as a fashion designer.
But in between her career transition, the brunette beauty decided to try her hand at a different kind of sound with a hip hop album co-written by her BFF at the time, Damon Dash.
Now, 13 years later, seventeen tracks off the unreleased urban album entitled Come Together have been released and naturally we’re all flipping out to hear them.
Check out a snippet from the unreleased album in the video player below! Post continues…
Last month, a demo disc containing discarded tracks from the album was auctioned off on eBay, and some of the tunes have now made their way to YouTube and SoundCloud.
One secret sample track called DAT Simple includes a collaboration from rap group M.O.P with another featuring US rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
Speaking about the album that never surfaced, Damon Dash revealed that David Beckham’s wife’s record label didn’t entirely approve of the new sound she was trying out.
In 2003 he revealed to the Evening Standard: “Because Victoria’s record company aren’t happy about the fact that she came over to New York to work with me they are putting out stories. Before anyone’s even heard the album they were making things up.”
“I heard a story that Victoria was calling herself the female Eminem. That’s just dumb. She never said that. I’m going to open Roc-a-Fella Records in London. I’ll show these Telstar cats how it’s done,” he added.
Apparently, Posh recorded two full studio albums since her departure from the Girl Group – Open Your Eyes and the unreleased urban demo, which remained that way due to poor sales from the first.
But we can’t feel too bad for the now-mother-of- four, who went on to begin what is perhaps the cutest family ever, as well as building herself a fashion empire as both a designer and style icon.
