30-year-old business student Kaci Sullivan is believed to be the first person to give birth as both a man and a woman, after welcoming a child via C-section this week, five years after he gave birth as a woman.
One year after giving birth to his first child in 2011, Kaci came out as transgender and began the long process of transitioning from a woman to a man, according to the Independent.
Kaci expected giving birth as a woman would make him feel more feminine, something he had struggled with all his life, but has said he remained feeling hopeless, lost and in a dark place.
After coming out as transgender and meeting his current partner, Steven, he finally felt relief and at home in his skin.
The couple welcomed baby Phoniex this week but have decided not to reveal his gender. Instead, the pair will raise their baby ‘gender neutral, and let it decide which sex it would like to identify with when it’s older.
Earlier this year, after suffering a heartbreaking miscarriage Trystan Reese and his husband, Biff Chaplow, welcomed a little boy, who they named Leo Murray, the first biological child the pair have had together.
This comes about because Trystan was born a girl, and despite starting hormone therapy 10 years ago, the 34-year-old stopped taking hormones and was able to conceive almost just like any woman would.
The first time the couple conceived, the pregnancy, tragically, only lasted a few weeks, making Biff particularly cautious to try again.
‘I thought I was giving up having a family – I didn’t even think of it as an option,’ Trystan explains to Buzzfeed.
“I didn’t ever dream of having, or wanting to have, a biological child. One, I didn’t think it would be possible, and two, it took a long time for me to be strong enough in my identity as a man to be able to do that.”
