The female joey made her first appearance munching on eucalyptus leaves clinging on to her mum exploring her new habitat.
According to zoo keeper Laura Jones: “she’s still quite shy, but we’re beginning to see her little face more and more.”
The joey is yet to be given a name and at six months old is doing well, and will continue to gain weight and grow more of that fluffy fur.
The experts say that she will continue to stay by her mum’s side for at least another four months before she’s ready to venture out on her own.
The joey’s mum Wanda is an old hand at mother-hood, this being her third birth as part of Taronga Zoo’s breeding program.
Laura added: “Wanda is a very relaxed and attentive mum. She keeps her little one nice and close at all times and I’ve never seen her complain when the joey is scratching around with its claws inside her pouch.”
You could actually meet Wanda and her Joey, if you don’t die from cuteness over-load first, at Taronga Zoo’s Koala Encounter, where tour groups can learn everything you need to know about Australia’s most adorable animal.
