Two police in Victoria went above and beyond the call of duty when they intercepted a speeding car in the state’s south west on Wednesday night and ended up delivering a baby.
The Portland Highway Patrol Unit members pulled over a speeding car in Tyrendarra near Portland on the Princes Highway at 8.40pm but soon realised the reason for the haste, reports the Warrnambool Standard.
It became very obvious that the woman in the car was about to give birth and despite calling an ambulance the baby wasn’t going to wait.
The baby, a boy, was born a 9pm with the assistance of the two senior constables.
“A paramedic arrived shortly after the birth and attended to the woman and her child before they were conveyed to the Warrnambool Hospital with one of the police members driving the ambulance,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Creina O’Grady told the Herald Sun.
