While they aren’t known for their speed the owners of one disabled tortoise have got super creative to make sure their cute pet remains mobile.
Eight-year-old Touche might only have three legs but he is back on the move after vets fitted him out with a Hotwheels car under his shell.
The cute pet lost his limb in a household accident at his home in Bristol, England, but to the delight of his three-year-old owner, Lena Hale the clever doctors at the Highcroft Veterinary Hospital have used the base of a toy car on his underside of his reptile shell to help him get around.
Lena’s mum Lisa Purnell said the tortoise is her daughter’s best friend and the new wheels mean he can once again be active.
“She wakes up every morning and wants to play with him, kiss him, feed him,” Ms Purnell told the Metro UK.
“She got really hysterical when she had to leave him at the vets, but I took her up there to say goodnight.
“She knows that she has to be really careful with him now, but he seems to be doing really well and getting to grips with his wheel.”
It took the animal doctors just 90 minutes to attach Touche’s new chassis using a special resin underneath his belly which now stops the tortoise from dragging his back end around.
“It’s almost as though he doesn’t realise he hasn’t got a leg,” said Lisa. “He is zooming around the house as if nothing happened.”
