Tori Johnson’s parents pay tribute to their ‘beautiful boy’

Tori Johnson’s parents Ken and Rowena Johnson have released a heartfelt statement about their “beautiful boy”.

“We are so proud of our beautiful boy Tori, gone from this earth but forever in our memories as the most amazing life partner, son and brother we could ever wish for,” they said via 2GB radio host Ben Fordham this morning.

“We’d like to thank not only our friends and loved ones for their support, but the people of Sydney, Australia and those around the world for reaching out with their thoughts and prayers.”

The 34-year-old Lindt cafe manager, who was one of the innocent victims killed in the Sydney siege, reportedly decided to take action and wrestle the weapon from the 50-year-old lone gunman, allowing the other hostages to escape.

His parents also thanked NSW police, armed forces and paramedics and offered their “heartfelt sorrow for the family of Katrina Dawson”, who also died during the siege.

“Our deepest gratitude to the NSW police, armed forces and paramedics for their tireless efforts,” they said.

“We ask that the media respects our privacy in this difficult time.

“Let us all pray for peace on earth.”

Steve Loane, Lindt Australia, CEO has also released a statement about Tori, describing him as a ‘great ambassador for our company and the store’ which he had worked at for two years.

“He was a dedicated professional who always built a great rapport with his customers and was much loved by the Lindt team,” the statement posted to the Lindt Chocolate Cafe Australia Facebook page read.

“By nature he was a perfectionist and he had a genuine passion for the hospitality industry and people. He was a really important part of our management team in Australia and his loss is absolutely tragic.

Our thoughts are with his family and we will do all that we can to provide ongoing support and help for them during this very difficult time. We also wish to express our deepest condolences to the family of Katrina Dawson, another tragic loss.”

After 17 long and terrifying hours, the tense ordeal ended in the early hours of Tuesday morning with a volley of gunfire as heavily armed police stormed the chocolate cafe, where 17 hostages, including Mr Johnson and Ms Dawson, were being held captive by self-described Muslim cleric Man Haron Monis.

It has since been revealed the hostage-taker, who was shot dead by police, was on bail on a range of charges including being an accessory to murder and sexual assault.
