The parking ticket note that made this mum’s day

For one Canberra mum, fresh out of a week in hospital caring for her unwell nine-week-old child, this parking ticket ended up being the perfect reminder of how wonderful people can be.

It’s enough to make anyone’s heart sink. You return to your car after a day out and see the dreaded parking ticket sitting on the windshield.

However, for one Canberra mum, fresh out of a week in hospital caring for her unwell nine-week-old child, it was surprisingly a parking ticket that ended up being the perfect reminder of how wonderful people can be.

Earlier this week, in an anonymous Facebook post on the Canberra Mums page, the new mother recounted how the kindness of a stranger had meant so much during a difficult time. A girl named Laura, she said, had paid off the entire parking ticket and attached a message that read: “Hi there, I saw your car had a parking ticket on it, I’m sure whatever you are going through at hospital is tough enough, so I have paid for you.”

To thank the stranger for the act of kindness, the Canberra mother wanted to pay the goodwill forward by sharing her story.

“We were discharged today and as I walked to my car I noticed that I had a parking ticket. After those days in hospital, a parking ticket was one more thing that I didn’t need,” she wrote.

“Well to my surprise, when I opened the envelope there was a note from a lovely lady named Laura (attached).

“I hope that Laura sees this and knows how much I appreciate her support. Thank you so much.”
