After a devastating brain cancer relapse that has seen her undergo intensive chemotherapy and lose her hair, high school student Allie Allen was overwhelmed with gratitude when her homecoming dance date turned up with a shaved head in a bid to make her feel more comfortable about hers.
Taking to Facebook, Allie’s mother Debbi Jacobson Allen – who is sadly also battling breast cancer – explained Allie’s grade school friend Brayden Carpenter had shaved his head prior to the dance. “Allie had no clue until he showed up!” she wrote. “Now that is class!”
Allie, who first began her battle with a rare form of brain cancer in 2013, has been undergoing radiation for the last month, and had dreaded the inevitable loss of hair.
“It’s easy for some people to say ‘it’s just hair,’ but it’s hard when you’re a teenage girl,” Allie explained on her family’s Go Fund Me page.
“Sunday morning I woke up with about 2 chunks of hair left and I decided to pull a Britney Spears 2007 and shave my head.”
“That was very hard for me to do but that’s one thing I got over and am not stressing over it anymore. One of these pictures shows my scar now everyone can see it, but a scar is a tattoo with a better story, right?”
