A teenager has reportedly died after getting a hickey from his girlfriend that caused blood clot which led to a fatal stroke.
Julio Macias Gonzalez’s family became concerned when he started having convulsions at the dinner table with his family in Mexico City, The Sun reports.
An ambulance was called to assist but the 17-year-old died tragically died shortly after.
It is believed the love bite caused damage to a major artery in the neck, forming a clot which caused the freak incident.
A similar situation was recorded in 2011, where a 44-year-old New Zealand woman was reportedly left partially paralysed from a stroke, thought to be caused by similar reasons.
At the time one of the doctors treating the woman told the Christchurch press of how rare her situation was.
“Because of the physical trauma it had made a bit of bruising inside the vessel,” Dr Teddy Wu said. “There was a clot in the artery underneath where the hickey was.”
“We looked around the medical literature and that example of having a love bite causing something like that hasn’t been described before,” he said.
The Sun reports that Mr Gonzalez’s 24-year-old girlfriend has now disappeared and the boy’s parents are apparently now blaming her for his death.
