Stephanie Scott’s murderer set to appeal life sentence

Vincent Stanford’s Legal Aid lawyers have lodged a notice of intention to appeal his sentence for the murder of the Leeton bride-to-be.

Vincent Stanford, the school cleaner convicted and sentence to life without parole for the murder of Leeton teacher Stephanie Scott, is considering appealing his sentence.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Stanford’s Legal Aid lawyers have lodged a notice of intention to appeal his sentence for the murder of the bride-to-be in the Court of Criminal Appeal. They now have six months to make a formal appeal application.

The 25-year-old was sentenced to life without parole three weeks ago for the rape and murder of the Leeton High teacher on Easter Sunday last year, a week before her wedding. During his trial it was heard that he told a psychiatrist he just had an “overwhelming urge” to kill Ms Scott.

The news of Standford’s appeal comes a day after the Scott family suffered another incomprehensible tragedy. Stephanie’s dad, 59-year-old Robert, was killed by a falling tree as he cleared land on his property in NSW’s Riverina.
