Kate Hudson, a carefree 22-year-old uni student from Melbourne had been enjoying the trip of a lifetime in Europe, it never occurred to her that she could possibly be pregnant.

After having recently missed her period twice, Kate then decided to buy a pregnancy test in Spain – just “for peace of mind”.

Kate had recently come off the Pill and assumed her body was simply adjusting – but the pregnancy test came back positive!

Panicking, Kate visited a doctor for confirmation. And that’s when the real shock came – not only was she pregnant, she was 33 weeks along!

“I just froze,” remembers Kate. “I was really shocked. I said, ‘Why aren’t I showing? Why haven’t I had symptoms? Why was I still getting my period?”

In the weeks leading up to the shock news, Kate was busy having the time of her life with her friends, doing risky activities like jumping off cliffs, riding bikes, drinking wine and enjoying foods such as raw fish, soft cheeses and poached eggs.

Kate didn’t display any of the customary symptoms of pregnancy – no morning sickness, no sensitivity to smells, and most significantly of all – barely any weight gain. The 20-something had been showing off bump-free bikini selfies and only gained a teensy 2kg.

Kate frantically called boyfriend of 18 months Aaron Allport, 24, back in Melbourne. “He said, ‘What?! How is that even possible?’ Then he started to shake.”

The obstetrician even told Kate she was too pregnant to fly home, but terrified, she booked herself on the next flight. When Kate arrived home, she got another huge surprise. She was in fact 38 weeks and 6 days pregnant. The reason she still had no bump was due to a tilted uterus.

Ten days later, Kate gave birth to a perfect baby boy weighing 2.9kg. The overjoyed young couple called him Mason Flynn.

“Once I felt that skin-to-skin contact, it made everything feel real,” smiles Kate. “There are times when it’s hard. But just looking at Mason, we know we’ve created something so amazing.”
