For most of us, an aeroplane flight is an uneventful means of crossing a border. Sometimes; you might even get a free bag of nuts or treat yourself to a glass of wine!
But for this couple, an ordinary flight became a huge moment in their relationship that signified the beginning of the rest of their lives.
Eric Sadiwnyk and his wife Lisa were making their way home from a romantic trip to Las Vegas.
They were tired after a big weekend of sightseeing and a seven-hour airport wait ahead of take-off.
But little did Eric know, he was about to be surprised with some special news after Lisa masterminded a grand plan – and, of course, filmed the whole thing.
The pilot began making his pre-flight announcement, but there was a palpable note of delight in his voice as his routine speech suddenly took a different turn.
“I’d like to draw your attention to seat 29E where you’ll find Eric who’s travelling with his wife Lisa,” said the pilot.
“Well Eric, although you didn’t strike it rich here in Las Vegas, you did hit the jackpot,” he announced before taking a pause for suspense. “Congratulations. You’re about to be a dad.”
Squeals of delight and applause can be heard from neighbouring passengers, and as Eric, 32, begins to tear up, the couple share a kiss.
“By the time he said my name, and ‘Congratulations, you’re pregnant,’ I looked to her and she was crying and I was crying,” Eric said, recalling the moment to American Today show. “I was shocked at first and I was excited.”
Lisa, who is due in September, discovered that she was pregnant whilst in Las Vegas, but instead of immediately telling her husband, she decided to wait for a perfectly unique moment.
“I don’t get a lot of opportunity to surprise my husband, and it’s such a happy surprise,” says the expectant mum. “I just thought it would be fun to really catch him off guard.”
The couple live in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, and had been trying to start a family.
Lisa must have had a feeling that the city would give her luck, so she prepared for the possible plane reveal before she left home. She packed a typed note for the pilot, hoping that she would have the chance to use it.
The heart-warming footage was posted to Lisa’s Facebook and has since been viewed more than 149,000 times. You can watch it in the video player above.
