One couple took their love of Nutella to a whole new level after deciding they wanted to name their newborn daughter after their favourite spread! Unfortunately for them, a French court has forbidden them from doing so.
According to French newspaper La Voix Du Nord, a court in the city of Valenciennes ruled that the baby girl’s parents could not name their daughter Nutella.
“The name ‘Nutella’ given to the child is the trade name of a spread,” the court’s official decision read, adding that it is “contrary to the child’s interest” to be named Nutella, as it “can only lead to teasing or disparaging thoughts.”
When the parents failed to appear on their court date, the judge renamed the now 4-month-old baby Ella. Of course they can give her the nickname of ‘Nutella’!
This is not the first case where parents have been told to rename their child.

A similar case where a couple from the French town of Raismes, were told they are not allowed to call their child ‘Strawberry’.
Judges again ruled that the baby girl would end up being the subject of extreme mockery, especially from future schoolmates.
In France strawberry has rude connotations, and “move your Strawberry” is French slang for “move your bottom”!
The parents renamed their daughter ‘Fraisine’ as it sounds like ‘Fraise’, the French word for strawberry, but it is far more acceptable.
It appears the French are taking their love of sweets to a whole new level!
