A photographer in the UK has offered students an altering option to “soften blemishes and facial lines, acne and even marks on jumpers”.
Single mother Alexandria Norman says she was horrified to discover she was given the chance to airbrush the images of her eight-year-old daughter Blake Smith for an extra £6.
The 31-year-old told Mirror, “This is taking the innocence out of school photos and making them into modelling shots.”
“It’s just a school photo – so what if they’ve got a spot? What sort of message does that send our children about accepting themselves?”
Alexandria, from Worthing, West Sussex, was sent a selection of proof images after Blake had her photo taken at Vale First and Middle School, which caters for children aged four to 12.
However, when she looked at the order form from photography firm Yellow, she was horrified to notice the image-altering service.
“These ‘blemishes’ are what make our children individual. I feel that retouching school photos is causing them to be aware of a subject which they shouldn’t even be thinking of a primary school age”.
