A Florida mother received an anonymous and very hurtful letter through her own letterbox after she wore some colourful leggings.
Kelley Markland, 36, loves wearing her “fun” leggings because she said they give her “a tad bit of confidence in not looking sloppy all the time.”
Sadly, a cruel bully decided to try and destroy Kelley’s confidence, putting a venomous letter through her door which read: “Women who weigh 300 pounds should not wear yoga pants!!”
Kelley had just come home from her daughter Mia’s birthday party and was heartbroken to read the vile letter which included a meme which said: “Your pants say yoga but your butt says Mcdonald’s.”
Instead of allowing the bully to win, Kelley posted it on Facebook:
**”So, I came home from celebrating a fun birthday dinner for Mia and we were all so happy! I open my mail to find this envelope with a silly picture (not me in that picture BTW) and a note. Apparently, I weigh 300 pounds and I shouldn’t wear leggings anymore.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I care deeper and stronger than many. I am a sensitive woman and I despise cruelty towards others. At 36 years old, I am STILL being made fun of. Whoever sent this, be an adult and tell me who you are. JUST TELL ME!!!
I have never pretended to be pretty or look good in clothing, I have never tried to be flashy or show off.
Wearing my “fun” leggings gave me a tad bit of confidence in not looking sloppy all the time. I’m sorry that some of you may not like it, but I’m not dressing for you. All the hate in this world, and you have to pick on me for this?! Thank you for making me feel like absolute, complete shit. A wonderful night with my family had to end like this…..so unbelievably disappointed in people anymore.”**
The post received such an outpouring of support that she even thanked the letter-sender:
“Whoever wrote this letter, thank you, because you started something so much bigger. Because of this, I found some strength I didn’t have.”
What an awesome woman. Other news outlets seem to think so too and Kelley has been making headlines the world over.
Even the teachers at her children’s school showed their support by all showing up to school one day wearing leggings in solidarity.
Speaking to Babble, Kelley said she initially started wearing leggings to feel confident.
“As a plus-sized woman, your options are limited,” she told Babble. “I got compliments [on my leggings] and started feeling better in what I was wearing. The more I wore them, the more I wanted to keep wearing them because I felt pretty and good in them. My wardrobe turned from black because I tried to hide and not stand out, to blues and pinks. I’m happy I finally have the confidence to wear something that isn’t solid black.”
We love her leggings! And we’re also glad she’s setting an example to her kids that you should always stand up to bullies.
