Yet, when she arrived at the hospital, the response she received from the hospital staff shocked her most.

A male registration clerk quipped, “I bet he likes you,” to the little girl after she explained a boy at school had punched her.

Enraged by the comment, Ms Smith posted a picture to Facebook with the following message, saying the “hurting is flirting” stance makes an excuse for unacceptable behaviour.

“I will not allow that message to be ok. I will not allow it to be louder than ‘That’s not how we show we like each other.’”

The image has been shared over 34,000 times and has received support from all around the world
