Murdered mother and daughter Karlie and Khandalyce Pearce-Stevenson will finally be laid to rest together at a service in Alice Springs next week.
While family and friends can draw some comfort and closure from the funeral, their tragic story is far from over as the investigation into their tragic deaths continues.
Karlie’s body was found in a shallow grave in the Belanglo State Forest five years ago. Daniel Holdom, who was previously in a relationship with Ms Pearce-Stevenson, is currently facing charges over her murder.
Police have confirmed they are still investigating Ms Pearce-Stevenson and Holdom’s links to the drug trade from Adelaide to Central Australia.
Holdom’s former partner Hazel Passmore has also been repeatedly questioned over her alleged use of Ms Pearce-Stevenson’s credit card.
At this stage, no one has been charged over the death of young Khandalyce whose remains were found in a suitcase in South Australia five months ago.
Ms Sharon Harris, Karlie’s aunt, has expressed her gratitude to the local community for the support their family has received since the identities of the victims was revealed in October.
“They’ve been behind the girls right from the very beginning … the kindness and compassion they’ve shown towards everything that’s happened.”
The joint funeral service will be held on December 11.
