Cheyenne Rae was eight months old when her mother was told her little girl would not survive the night.
When Cheyenne wouldn’t stop crying, her father – James Davis Jr. – had shaken her so severely she was left with a fractured skull and bleeding on her brain.
Davis Jr eventually admitted to the crime, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment followed by five years of probation.
Three years on, Cheyenne is still alive and in fact, thriving. And her mother has reclaimed the day the little girl was assaulted as “survivor day”.
Posting an image of Cheyenne in hospital, and now as a happy toddler on Facebook, mother Amy Owensby captioned it with the below:
“Happy Survivor Day my beautiful baby! 3 years since Cheyenne was shaken by her dad. 3 years since I was told she wouldn’t live through the night. 3 years since her heart stopped. 3 years since she had half her brain removed. 3 years since our lives changed forever. So very blessed that she’s still here with me, proving miracles do happen. Mommy loves you Cheyenne Rae!”
Cheyenne now only has a weak right leg and her mother’s post has gained over 30,000 likes and more than 1500 shares.
We’re a bit late, but Happy Survivor Day Cheyenne.
