Members of the Nepalese army performed a phenomenal rescue on Sunday, pulling the young baby boy from the rubble after Saturday’s devastating earthquake.
The child, Sonit Awal, was trapped in the debris for a gut-wrenching 22 hours. Kathmandu Today reports that officials attempted a rescue on Saturday but were unsuccessful and gave up around midnight.
Hope was ignited when baby Sonit’s father, Shyam heard his son crying and the army returned swiftly that morning to save his precious son.
After getting a check-up at the hospital, miraculously Sonit avoided any serious injury.
The 7.8-magnitude earthquake has claimed at least 5,200 lives, but among the wreckage there has been some remarkable stories of survival and rescue.
One man was saved after 80 hours buried in rubble, while another was found alive 60 hours later.
Donations to Nepal are still desperately needed with Nepalese officials believing the death toll could soar to 10, 000 with an estimated 200 Australians still unaccounted for.
