A call from a father in Iran brought Sydney police to a unit in Potts Point where they found the body of a 35-year-old Iranian hairdresser. She had been stabbed multiple times.
Her partner, a man aged 41, has been charged with murder. Police say he is the only suspect in the incident.
ABC Online reports that a neighbour said she heard screams in the home just before 5:00pm on Wednesday, but Superintendent Fitzgerald said authorities did not receive any information until Thursday.
“Unfortunately, no reports were made to police until the father rang us,” he said. “We have received information that he had a phone call with his son-in-law where it is alleged the son-in-law told him certain things.
“What we would ask in future [is] if anyone hears anything suspicious at all please contact police because it could be a matter of life and death.”
Authorities confirmed the woman and her partner were working in Australia on bridging visas.
Police said the 41-year-old man had been refused bail and would appear in court on Friday (today).
