The name Lorena Bobbitt still makes grown men squirm. So, how has a woman who cut off her husband’s penis managed to start anew and find a man?
After years out of the spotlight, Lorena is finally speaking out about how she is still haunted by her infamous crime, and how she’s now trying to use her experience to help others.
Her journey into infamy began on a steamy June night 15 years ago. Despite the violence of that evening, abused wife Lorena says it was only when she was driving away from her home that she realised she had committed a terrible act.
“I suddenly realised I was holding his member,” she says in a tone of surprise.
“I threw it out of the window just as I was passing a 7-Eleven.”
In pictures from the news stories at the time, Lorena was a grim-faced, brunette nail technician. Now a bubbly blonde realtor, she is so tiny, she looks like she’d have trouble swatting a fly.
Now 39, she’s agreed to an interview to promote her new foundation, Lorena’s Red Wagon, which supports women in shelters — particularly victims of domestic violence.
“My dream is to set up a shelter of my own one day,” she says.
