South Australian apprentice jockey, Dylan Caboche, has been caught on camera punching his horse, She’s Reneldasgirl before a race at Port Lincoln.
22-year-old Dylan has received a two-week ban from racing, but angry punters and have said this is not enough and Dylan should, in fact, receive a lifetime ban.
The act was caught on camera (which can be seen in full above) and shows the horse unwilling to be moved to take her starting position in the gates.
Dylan, failing to steady the horse dismounts and aggressively punches her in the ribs. The horse rears up in obvious pain.
Officials from Thoroughbred Racing SA tweeted that Dylan would be receiving a suspension of two weeks, however it will not be put in place for another three weeks.
“Suspended from midnight 17/11/17 to 1/12/17,” the tweet reads.
Following the announcement, many are saying this is not good enough, and more action should be taken.
The issue is being widely discussed and featured on Sunrise this morning where Jane Caro summed up the situation perfectly.
“I would have thought that if you were a jockey one of the things you would love the most is horses,” she says.
“Mistreatment of animals should never be allowed.”
People on Twitter are also kicking off over the incident.
With the hashtag #banhim slowly beginning to spread across social media and people calling for justice, we hope this jokey gets the punishment he deserves.
