John Wayne Bobbitt, the man who made world headlines when his penis was hacked off with a kitchen knife, has spoken out about the incident, 23 years later.
Speaking to US TV show Scandal Made Me Famous, he recalls the moment his then-wife Lorena mutilated him:
“I didn’t know she cut it off. She did it so fast and ran so fast — I thought maybe I saw a little bit of her in my peripheral running out the bedroom door. But I looked down and there was blood everywhere. I applied pressure — I get up and try to put my pants on, and tried to get to the hospital as fast as I could.”
Lorena chucked the penis into a field and the organ was found by police, surgeons miraculously able to reattach it.
She later claimed that Bobbitt had assaulted her earlier that evening but he was cleared. She was acquitted of the attack by reason of insanity.
Talking to Scandal Made Me Famous, Bobbitt says that he didn’t want to live, saying “I just wanted to end it.”
When Bobbit discovered he could still perform sexually, he starred in a number of porn movies, including Frankenpenis and John Wayne Bobbitt.
Bobbitt even travelled to Melbourne during his stint as a porn star.
Last year Lorena appeared on the Steve Harvey show to share her own recollection of that fateful evening, stating she ‘snapped’ having suffered continual domestic violence.
“I found myself in the street with a penis in one hand and the knife in the other,” she told Harvey.
“So yeah, that happens … I’m here to tell you and to tell everyone what happens when a woman gets abused by a man.”
