Media icon and former Australian Women’s Weekly editor Ita Buttrose has been named Australian of the Year.

The publishing legend and Alzheimers awareness and fundraising advocate received the honour at a ceremony at Parliament, ahead of tomorrow’s Australia Day celebrations.

Ita was honoured for “brilliant and groundbreaking media career” and “championing medical education and healthcare”.
