When Christine’s fiancé told her he needed to live as a woman her world collapsed… but now they’re married.

Christine thought a trip to Greece was the perfect opportunity to meet the man of her dreams. And when she got talking with “good-looking” Matt Edwards, the two hit it off straight away.

From the start she was impressed with the fact that he didn’t seem too macho, but little did Christine know that from the age of 18 Matt had been hiding his belief that he was a woman born in a male body, and had become a master at fooling everybody — including himself.

But when 20-year-old Christine met him she realised she’d found someone special. Before long the two were madly in love and decided to move in together in England.

“For a while life was good,” Christine remembers. “We were a normal couple with a healthy sex life. I felt lucky that I had a man I could connect with.”

But keeping the enormous secret caused Matt — normally a loving partner — to have fits of anger he couldn’t explain, especially around gender-specific activities like shopping.

Despite these occasional outbursts, he and Christine were happy together, and after two years they decided to marry, setting the date for October 2007.

“I was excited, but Matt withdrew into himself,” Christine says. “Then he said he was going to see a counsellor.”

Initially, Christine was glad, hoping therapy might help. But after the first session he made a shocking announcement.

Matt said that, although he had a male body, his brain was female, and he needed to live as a woman to be true to himself…
