“Horrifying, cruel act”: Dog found buried alive with nail in its head

It's likely more than one person was involved due to the force needed to inflict such an attack.

A dog has been found after it was buried alive with a nail hammered into its skull.

In a grim discovery the RSPCA has described as a “horrifying, cruel act” the animal was found on Wednesday in Teesside, in the north east of England, reports the BBC.

The abandoned pet was happened upon by a couple of walkers in in the Kirkleatham Woods after they could hear whimpering coming from the ground.

The terrier-type pup was dug up and rushed to a nearby vet but, due to the injuries, the animal had to be euthanised.

Authorities believe the animal was possibly a Jack Russell or West Highland Terrier cross-breed, a dog similar to this one, and aged about seven years old.

Inspector Nick Jones said: “In all my ten years working for the RSPCA, I have never known anything so horrifying and inexplicably cruel.

“It’s likely more than one person was involved due to the force needed to inflict such an attack.”

Local police are looking for those responsible.
