The unlikely Australian love story of a single mother who fell for her sperm donor may be headed for your nearest cinema.
Working Title Films, the creators behind the romantic comedies Love Actually and Bridget Jones’ Diary, have enquired about obtaining the film rights after the heartwarming tale of Aminah Hart and Scott Anderson aired on ABC, the broadcaster reports.
Aminah and Scott first met one year after she gave birth to their daughter Leila; the result of sperm donated by a “happy and healthy” donor, according to clinic documents.
On Monday night Australian Story documented their fairytale romance and since then the ABC says it has been inundated with requests from television shows, news outlets and women’s magazine from around the world.
“Bloody hell, this is insane!” Aminah, an advertising professional, told the ABC.
“I’ve been completely surprised by how widely the story had resonated.”
In 2011, after suffering the heartbreak of losing two baby boys to a genetic disorder, Aminah found herself newly single at age 42.
She still clung to her dream of motherhood and decided to turn to donated sperm.
Aminah gave birth to Leila in 2012. Worried about how her daughter would feel growing up and not knowing anything about her biological father, Aminah contacted Scott, who agreed to meet Leila just before she turned one.
Aminah and Scott began a friendship that soon turned romantic and the family-of-three has been together ever since.
ABC reports the they are currently holidaying in Thailand but will consider their options when they return to Australia next week.
