A 12-year-old girl logged on to Facebook while she was being raped to distract herself from the horrific attack.
The girl bravely revealed her ordeal in a victim impact statement at the sentencing of her rapist Charles Salter, 55.
“I felt like I had nothing to live for because of what he was doing,” her statement read.
Salter began grooming the girl after her 12th birthday and started sexually abusing her shortly afterwards, Hull Crown Court heard.
He raped her numerous times and threatened her life if she told anyone about the attacks. Prosecutor Patrick Palmer told the court about one attack in which the victim checked her social media accounts so she wouldn’t have to mentally confront what was happening to her.
The girl eventually told a friend, who alerted police.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of raping a girl under 13, two counts of sexual activity with a child and one of sexual activity with as child under 13. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
