A 5-year-old girl who was found abandoned at a busy bus terminal in Manhattan has led police to her murdered mother in Connecticut.
The girl was reportedly dropped at the Port Authority bus terminal by her father and told to wait there but the alarm was raised when strangers began to wonder why the young child was left alone for hours, according to ABC News.
Police arrived and the child led them to her home where her mother’s body was found.
Authorities are now searching for the girl’s father, believed to be Guatemala native 32-year-old Elmer Gomez Ruano.
The girl, who mostly speaks Spanish, has reportedly shown no visible signs of injury or trauma and it’s unclear if she was a witness to what happened to her mother.
Stamford police Captain Richard Conklin told reporters that the investigation was ongoing.
“She speaks mostly Spanish,” Capt. Conklin told ABC. “And due to her age, there’s some complications about interviewing her at that age without a guardian, so we’re working on that at this point.”
