Man charged with child abduction after sleeping girl, 12, taken from her bed in Queensland

A 24-year-old central Queensland man has been charged with child abduction after allegedly snatching a 12-year-old girl from her bed in Gladstone.

Police have charged a man in relation to the alleged abduction of a 12-year-old child while she slept at her home in Gladstone, Queensland in the early hours of yesterday.

It will be alleged that around 1am a man, who polic say is not known to the girl, broke into a Gladstone home and dragged a sleeping girl outside.

The girl’s screams alerted the occupants of the house with a man coming to the girl’s aid, which then caused the offender to flee.

The girl sustained cuts and grazes to her arms from the incident.

Ongoing investigations by police led officers to attend an address at Seaview Heights around 1.30pm yesterday afternoon. Upon the arrival of police a man fled the home, resulting in a large scale search of the Seaview Heights and Clinton areas with the assistance of the police dog squad.

A 24-year-old Sunset man was located in the rear yard of an address by police around 8.15pm last night and taken into custody.

He has been charged with one count each of abduction of a child under 16 years of age, assault, enter dwelling with intent, indecent treatment of a child under 16 and obstruct police.

He was denied police bail and remanded in custody to appear in the Gladstone Magistrates Court this morning faces the above charges and other charges not related to this incident.
