Mum-of-two Angela Shymanski told Canadian news channel CBC that she drove her SUV off the road after falling asleep at the wheel causing injuries to not only herself but to her two sleeping children in the back seat.

“[My daughter] woke up and got out of her five-point harness, which she had only done once before, and she just climbed up the embankment to the highway and flagged somebody down,” she revealed.

Angela played a lullaby to help her kids nod off to sleep, but unexpectedly the soft music also had the same effect on mum, who crashed her car off road.

Awoken by her 10-week-old brother’s cries, five-year-old Lexi escaped from her car seat walked barefoot up the embankment that her mum had just slid down and caught the attention of cars passing by.

The crash site was not visible from the road and Anglea revealed to Metro News, “It was only because [Lexi] came up and flagged people down that anybody would have stopped.

She added: “It’s crazy because the guy who came to see us in the hospital, he said the medics and the firemen needed ropes to get up and down that embankment, and she did it barefoot.”

The first people little Lexi flagged down for help were another family, “It took him five tries before he could get cell service to call 911,” Angela revealed.

The next few weeks were challenging, with Angela suffering fractures in her neck and upper back as well as internal injuries that involve a damaged liver and broken ribs.

Lexi’s little brother Peter was diagnosed with a brain bleed, however both mum and bub are on the mend.

Angela, who is still in a wheelchair two months on from the incident has set up a GoFundMe page in the hopes of raising money for the family who have not been able to work since the incident.
