When the Madrid family’s pet Pomerianian, Kiki, disappeared in 2008 they assumed she had been stolen and they would never see their pooch again.
“(It was) very devastating,” owner Celeste Madrid told KOB4.
“Kids were sad, we were upset – she just had puppies not too long ago.”
Then the Madrid family got a surprise phone call from a vet saying that their lost pet had been found roaming the road side and they needed to come and collect her.
The vet had no idea that the animal had been gone for so long.
The pooch was still wearing her original collar that the Madrids had put on her, and a microchip check confirmed that Kiki was indeed a prodigal pup.
“We’re still in shock because it has been so long that she’s been gone – we thought she was dead,” Celeste Madrid said.
Kiki had a few missing teeth, was suffering dehydration and struggled to eat but she is expected to make a full recovery.
The Madrid family have no idea where their little friend has been for all of these years, but they are very happy to finally have her home.
