This is the stuff of any parent’s nightmare; A father in the US has reportedly woken to hear his young daughter crying but as he went to comfort her he discovered she wasn’t safely tucked away in her bed, but in the living room in the lap of an intruder.
The horrified dad claimed the man told him “I’m your friend” as he dropped the two-year-old girl on the lounge and tried to flee the Tempe, Arizona apartment, reports the Washington Post.
The dad chased the man down the stairs before catching him in the parking lot while his wife called 911.
Police arrived and had to use a stun gun on the suspect who was later identified as Israeli national 34-year-old Oren Aharon Cohen.
Cohen’s shoes, coat and other belongings were allegedly found in the young girl’s room and he was charged with second-degree burglary, aggravated assault and kidnapping.
The parents of the girl claim that the child was still dressed in all of her clothes she was put to bed in and there isn’t any suspicion of sexual assault.
Cohen reportedly claims that he was blackout drunk and cannot clearly remember what happened, except that he would never hurt a child.
According to the Washington Post the suspect reportedly told police he was in the same apartment complex drinking with a friend and got disorientated when he went outside to have a cigarette.
He also told police he felt like he was in the company of a “midget” in a dark room – Cohen’s description of the little person matches the clothes worn by the child.
His next court appearance is December 27.
