Children battling cancer live out dreams in beautiful photoshoot

I really see it as an opportunity to give children hope.

Father of four, Jonathan Diaz is helping children battling cancer live out their dreams with a collection of beautiful photographs which have just been turned into a book.

True Heroes: A Treasury of Modern-day Fairy Tales Written by Best-selling Authors combines stunning photographs with equally moving words from authors including Allie Condie and Brandon Mull.

Diaz, who is based in Salt Lake City, photographed these children living out their dreams, whether in a character or career, and then added elements through photoshop to bring their imagination to the image.

“I really see it as an opportunity to give children hope. Hospitals and other medical centers can give it to sick kids, for example, and give them a sense of renewed optimism. That’s my real goal,” Diaz told USA Today

The photographs became the Anything Can Be project, which later led to the book publication.

And they may be small, but these “True Heroes” will not be forgotten by Diaz.

“Jordan, who’s featured in the ‘Jordan in Wonderland’ shot, passed away a few weeks after we took the photos,” Diaz told Today.

“She really wanted to be part of the project when she was sent home to be on hospice. Her mum called us, and we rushed an Alice in Wonderland dress, and we went to her home.

“She was really sick and in a lot of pain, and it took three people to have her stand up.

“I kept telling her just to sit down. You know, you don’t have to stand! But she was absolutely determined. That’s resilience.”
