Ebony Silva, 9, has been stranded in Bali without her passport for 5 years.
It follows a dispute between her Australian father, Peter Silva, and her Indonesian mother, who left the family.
Little Ebony’s passport expired while she was in Bali, and in order to get a new one (and therefore back into Australia), she needs both parents to sign her passport renewal papers.
Her mother is reportedly refusing to sign them unless she is paid $500,000.
Last year Foreign Minister Julie Bishop wrote to the Silva family saying she would work to bring Ebony home to Melbourne, but her father says they’ve still not received any help from the Australian authorities, who have refused to renew Ebony’s Australian passport until her estranged mother signs a passport application.
Mr Silva is trapped with his daughter until the government reviews the case between January to March 2017.
