Two Aussie teenagers are on a quest for sterilisation but no doctor is willing to perform procedure

The young women don’t want children, and are sick of taking birth control, but their decision is being met with heavy criticism from friends, family and strangers.

Two young Australian women have spoken to Daily Mail Australia about their wish to be sterilised, and how nobody will perform even the least invasive of procedures on them.

Dayna Foote, 19, and Laura Hosemans, 18, don’t want children but their wish to be sterilised isn’t being taken seriously as doctors believe they might change their minds.

Sick of taking the contraceptive pill (which isn’t always 100% effective), they went to the doctors to explore their options, including discussing the possibility of getting their tubes tied.

Laura also inquired about instead getting an intrauterine device (IUD), a T-shaped device inserted into the uterus to prevent fertilisation but they called her parents, despite it supposedly being a confidential appointment.

“For as long as I can remember I’ve always been uncomfortable with the concept of having kids,” Dayna told Daily Mail Australia. “I thought I had to, but I realised that it was more or less a family obligation and that it’s ultimately my choice.”

She added: “having children is pretty awful for the environment, and I don’t want to add to that.”

Laura said she frequently had arguments about it, especially with middle-aged women at work.

“People says ‘you’ll change your mind, don’t decide quite yet’ or ‘things will change and you’ll want them’, or they tell me I’ll regret it later, it will be different if the kids are mine, or that being a mother is ‘so worth it'”.

But she’s adamant she won’t change her mind.

The Mail notes Australia has the second-highest rate of voluntarily childless people in the OECD.

Do you think the women should be allowed to undergo a sterilisation procedure?
