At just 18, Tiffany Upton’s life took a horror turn in a work accident that almost robbed her of both arms, but the brave Queenslander has handled her ordeal with amazing strength and optimism…

All Tiffany Upton wants for Christmas is to put her arms around her family ? a simple wish she will have to wait two years to fulfil.

In a shocking industrial accident two months ago, the petite blonde teenager’s arms were almost ripped off and were left savagely damaged. Doctors compared her injuries to those of a shark attack.

But Tiffany, 18, from the small town of Killarney, about two hours’ drive south-west of Brisbane, has amazed doctors with her positive outlook and the progress she has made since her ghastly experience.

However, they have warned her that normal physical activity ? even giving her mum a proper, loving hug ? may not be possible for two years. Even after that, her arm movements could be severely restricted.

“Right now, I can just about manage to give Mum a half hug,” she says, with not a hint of self-pity. “Just a one-armed hug with my less damaged left arm. But at least I’ve come out of this nightmare alive, and one day when I’m better I’ll definitely give Mum a really big hug the way I used to do. I’ve promised her that.”
