Aminah Hart and her anonymous sperm donor, Scott Andersen have announced they are engaged!
The couple and their two-year-old daughter Leila were holidaying in Thailand when Scott popped the question.
The pair’s touching love story made international headlines after Aminah requested to make contact with Scott via the donor-recipient voluntary register and the pair fell in love.
Their story, which aired on Australian Story last week, is now being considered by a Hollywood film company.
Aminah decided to try IVF via a sperm donor at one last attempt at becoming a mum after losing two young sons to a rare genetic disorder known as X-linked myotubular myopathy.
The rare condition mainly affects boys as it is passed on to 50 per cent of males by the mother, who is a carrier.
The couple managed to keep their engagement a secret from the media before sharing the happy news with their friends and family when they returned home on Sunday.
“Scott and I had talked about getting married before,” Aminah told the ABC.
“But [we thought] not for about another five years.”
Aminah says she was thinking about her second son during the trip, who would have celebrated his sixth birthday on October 31 before Scott popped the question.
“I was feeling melancholy and imagining what Louis would be like at six,” she said.
“Scott returned from the shops with some milk for Leila. He reached out to hold my hand and in his very laconic, unfussy way, asked me to marry him.
“And then he produced a ring from a shop in the village. I loved it because it was so Scott.”
The happy couple say they plan to marry at the end of next year.
