A taxi dragged me 150 metres

She suffered horrific injuries and lost an eye, but Jenny Franco’s amazing spirit is shining through …

Looking out from beneath a swathe of bandages, Jenny Franco seems incredibly serene. There’s a calm purpose to the 24-year-old’s words as she puts a positive spin on the horrors she’s been through — and is still enduring.

Four months ago, a laughter-filled night out with friends was almost Jenny’s last. Returning home, she had got out of a car in Miranda in Sydney’s south and was crossing the road when she was hit by a taxi. She was pinned beneath the vehicle and dragged 150 metres along the bitumen.

Doctors likened her facial injuries to having been shot at close range with a high-powered rifle. She lost an eye, her scalp was shorn off, leaving her brain exposed, she had horrific burns to her back, arms and legs, and her flesh had been savagely ripped away, leaving her bones exposed and dirt embedded in her shredded body.

Some 20 operations later, and shored up by her family’s amazing love, Jenny can only marvel she’s had the resilience to escape death.
