New details have emerged in the tragic case of missing boy William Tyrrell.

A Current Affiar have made public, through Court of Appeal documents that William was in foster care at the time of his disappearance.

Statutory restrictions previously prevented this from becoming public knowledge but a Supreme Judge has now deemed this information to be “legitimate public interest”.

William was in the care of the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS), being cared for by foster parents when he went missing.

It’s been almost three years since the toddler vanished.

Supreme Court of NSW judge Justice Brereton is also quoted as noting “the tragic probability that (William) is no longer alive”.

The three-year-old toddler vanished while wearing his Spiderman suit on the morning of September 12, 2014 in Kendall, NSW, and police are still searching for answers as to what happened.

Strike Force Rosann has been charged with solving the case since 2014 and today police announced that the NSW government are putting up a $1 million reward for or information that leads to the recovery of William Tyrrell.

“By offering a reward, we are appealing directly to those who know something but have not previously been inclined to assist,” police said at the time

As part of the announcement of the reward, police reminded the community that they welcome potential sightings, but urged the use of common sense.

Despite an ongoing search no trace has been found of William.
