Even the very bravest among us can’t help but shudder at the thought of slipping a hand into our bag only to be met with something warm and scaly at the other end.
That’s exactly what happened to this student from Augusta State School, south of Brisbane, who reached into her bag for her lunch and found not a sandwich but a red-bellied black snake.
A nightmare only possible in Australia!
Experts were called to come in and deal with the situation and Snake Catchers Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and Gold Coast came to the rescue.
The expert snake handlers removed the 60-centimetre long snake from the girl’s backpack, explaining that it was probably just scared and looking for somewhere to hide.
That’s all well and good, but how can we make sure snakes aren’t hiding in our beds and backpacks?
How can we prevent snakes from entering the home?
If you notice snake activity in or around your home, call in the experts and have the snake removed as quickly as possible.
“It’s hot, it’s dry and many areas around Australia are noting the increase in snake activity,” Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia says.
