We’ve seen a lot of campaigning in 2016.
First of all Australia has its own election and now over in the US the long presidential race has meant that we’ve seen some very nasty campaign ads.
Rarely do you see a political ad that shows a candidate doing anything other than aim harsh jibes toward their opponent, which is why this clip from Texas Travis County Commissioner, Gerald Daugherty is so refreshing.
Rather than spit insults through a clenched smile, the positive ad makes its main focus humour as the pollie makes his case for re-election.
Daugherty isn’t seen kissing babies or shaking hands with strangers, instead he’s in his domestic setting annoying his friends and, more importantly, annoying his wife.
In the ad Daugherty can’t take his mind off the issues. He’s full of facts, talks numbers at dinner and even uses his steak as a prop to explain the transport situation in his city.
“Gerald doesn’t really have any hobbies,” says his long-suffering wife Charlyn Daugherty tells the audience. She says her obsessed talks about his job “all the time.”
“Most people leave their work at the office,” she continues, “All he wants to do is fix things.”
“Please re-elect Gerald,” she adds. “Please.”
