An aviation expert believes the wreckage which has washed up on an island east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean could be from missing flight MH370.
The debris which has surfaced on the island of La Reunion appears to be part of a wing and is about two metres long.
A local who found the wreckage – which was covered in shells – contacted aviation expert, Xavier Tytelman.
The former military pilot who now specialises in aviation security claims the wreckage could be from missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared last year.
“I’ve been studying hundreds of photos and speaking to colleagues,” Mr Tytelman told The Telegraph.
“And we all think it is likely that the wing is that of a Boeing 777 – the same plane as MH370.
“Police in Reunion examining the wreckage say that it looks like it’s been in the water for around a year, which again would fit with MH370. We can’t say for certainty, but we do think there is a chance that this is it.”
Tytelman also noted a reference number, BB670, on the recovered wreckage.
“This code is not a plane’s registration number, nor serial number. However… it’s clear that this reference would allow a quick identification. In a few days, we will have a definitive answer.”
239 people were on board MH370 when it vanished.
Investigators have never recovered any parts of the plane and the Malaysia declared all 239 people as presumed dead in January to help their families gain assistance and compensation.
